What kind of wax for a gun stock?

I just wondered what kind of wax you all use to wax your gunstocks? Do you buy something like the Birchwood Casey gun stock wax? Or do you use something else?

I tried the BC wax and didn't like it. Left a milky residue for me.

Tom's 1/3 is great stuff, IMO. At least on my military stuff.

I"ve also used plain carnuba wax on smooth handgun stocks with success.

I use Renaissance Wax or Bowling Alley Wax for almost all of my firearms or wood work.

Neither contains grit (polishing compound). Both last a long time.

It depends on the finish that you have on the furniture. Tom's is great for milsurps and any oil finished wood. If you have a clear finish over the wood use a carnuba wax.

What kind of carnuba wax do you recommend? Isn't some car wax carnuba wax? Do you just use that or do you use one specific to guns?

Any good quality carnuba wax. Mine was intended for cars but worked great.

Johnsons Paste Floor Wax is hard to beat.
You can use it on the metal too to prevent rust.

Amen. In a pinch, you can also use it as a release agent when glass bedding.

x3 on the Johnson's....Don't stop on the wood....It will do a good job of protecting your blued metal and really make it shine.
