Bit with the AR10 bug !

I have avoided AR 10 platform for many years now, preferring M-14 and FN Fal rifles I have worked with over the years after campaigning a custom HK91 from the early 80s in early practical rifle competitions.
But a couple weeks ago I found a LGS was selling these Aero M5 enhanced built lowers for $150 because of the ********** intimidation factor - no body is building ARs ! So I am taking it to my son's, and soon to be my residence , in Oregon :) , and have ordered the following to be sent there: M5 e1 enhanced upper receiver with a 15" M lok enhanced float fore end , an Aero .308 buffer tube ensemble , a Criterion 18.5" stainless Lightweight barrel DPMS pattern, an Aero Nickle Boron BCG and a JP adjustable gasblock and JP flash hider. I havent decided what stock to put on it yet.
I want to keep the weight down to the 7 pound or less range unscoped as this is a hunting weapon. I think I will put my Leupold VXR firedot 2-7 on it . I needed this like a hole in my head but my better heeled Dr. son will buy it from me when I get too old to use it :) Pictures FROM OREGON WHERE IT IS LEGAL shall follow in about a month.
You are going to have an awesome build.

They have pretty much one goal: pack light and hit hard. They do this quite well.
Nice! Out of curiosity, how much does that gun weigh? I've gotten so fed up with heavy barrel AR15:s lately that extending the weight loss principle to AR10:s is awfully tempting and your setup looks very nice.

I've recently been tempted to get a carbon fiber handguard for my ar15. I spent some money on an expensive fluted barrel to reduce the weight up front and didn't even think about the 18 oz free float tube on it.

Optics Planet will NOT ship the flash hider to Calif. !!! :( and they are out of the JP adj. gas block, so that order will be sourced elsewhere. I am gonna carry the lot of parts to Oregon the first of March, I must now drop a letter to Ca. DOJ informing them the wicked black Lower is now out of their socialist wonderland ( or I become the criminal) and the Democrats and aliens and criminals (same) can now breathe easy, :(

I ordered some JP springs and a LPK from Optic's Planet yesterday and they both backordered ... no known date of shipping for the LPK and the springs are 18-30 days out

last month I'd ordered a LPK from Optic's Planet and some extended pins ... at first the order was being held up because the pins were back ordered ... when they got the pins in the LPK was N/A ??? I don't know what's going on with them ... I canceled the order.

over the last couple days I got: my 18" lightweight midlegth gassed SS barrel, my M5 Aero stock tube and buffer kit (.308) , The Areo Ni/boron plated BCG and ambi charge handle, my M5e1 unitized 15" foreend with the receiver kit, and my melonited mid gas tube, I have a CTR Magpul stock that was never installed and an ALG ACT trigger also that will be installed , I found a Surefire Muzzle brake in the LGS for $50 with a crush washer and an Ergo Generation 2 grip that seems to fit nice for $30 in the same store- all they had for AR10s. I have screwed the buffer tube in hand tight , put on the CTR , screwed on the grip to check fit (I have to take it off because I have to strip the stock fire control parts out it came with. I screw on the barrel as tight as my hand on the special tool would take it and mounted the foreend loosely with 4 of the 8 screws and screw on the Surefire Muzzle brake tight on it's crush washer to check clocking if I needed shims (I don't :) )
I am waiting on the JP adjustable gas block until monday :( . So I weighed it on my postal scale which will be pretty close - about 4 onces shy of final weight without sights and got 7 pounds 10 .oz . For kicks I pulled the Leupold VXR 2-7 with it's attached 45 degree to right Doctor sight on it's La Rue 123 mounts which weigh a combined 18 .oz :( , so I am on tract to hit right at 9 pounds with no mag. :) - 10.5 pounds with 25 rounds say 11 pounds all up with sling !! Heavy but the gun feels lighter because it is so - BIG ! I am not gonna put this gun together in California, I allready took it back apart. I will resurrect this post with pics as I build it in Oregon next month.
PS: after I was shown today the M249 california legal :) :) version with a ridiculous fin deal pop riveted on the PG at the LGS, which does NOT require a Mag lock !!!! the gun feel light compared to what that $8000 monster weighs !

ere's a img of the M249 Ca compliant :)

If you can get sub 9lb with a scope on a 308 AR consider yourself in rare company.

I am more inclined to be OK with a 12lb. rifle if it is on the order of 300 Win Mag and wearing a Nightforce scope.

You post a great deal of silly things.

Dude... spot on... I don't like to ignore folks, but I've hovered over it for @saiga308 almost every time I've come on THR in the last couple weeks...

i know trying to be entertaining at times:uhoh:

Failing...

You should put more effort into TRYING to make relevant posts, on topic for the particular threads, instead of posting random links, pics, and videos of unrelated junk.

The OP's talking about AR-10's, then you post 20 times in a row with junk about the origin of the FN action - might as well bring up tire pressure for golf carts at the same time...

Weighs 8 pounds 9 .ozas shown, lacks the adj JP gas block, and fire control group, I am under the target weight of 9 pounds with optics. With the Doctor I am good to go for those short fast shots :)

Put it together in my new home state of Oregon :) went a little different on a couple things for final build. Ok it is a lightweight 18.5" stainless barrel from Criterion on Aero M5e1 upperlower combo. with AERO nitrided bolt and ambi charge handle, Gieselle SSA-E Trigger , Mlock Aero 15 " foreend, "Executive" custom PG which matches my High Power grips :) GG&G Bipod . removed Doctor back up sight and put these offset ones on . Changed stock to Magpul UBR . The weight is above 9 pound with empty mag, but reall carries light on Vickers Viking Tactic padded sling. With OLD Lake City Match ammo I wanted to get rid of I adjusted the JP gas block cleaning between the 16 shots it took to get it adjusted and checked. I got 1.5" 100 yard groups with last 5 shots. Now onto reloading the 1000 Remington 150 grain bronze points I have been hoarding for years :)

Doesn't that MagPul UBR stock weigh about 2 pounds all by itself?

Just giving you grief ... I've got several of the UBR's I like the weight because it helps offset the nose heavy-ness feels more balanced.
