Don't be that way
I probably blew just as many waiting to wait to twiddle my thumbs waiting to wait to be told the guy who could tell me to go home would be there in 5 minutes,
yeah a day on the range is much more fun
could have worse, polishing the barracks.
Sounds like every single training exercise at Fort Drum.
One particular range trip I remember, some civilian armorer had managed to install part of the feeding system on the entire batallion's SAWs backwards, so all of the SAW gunners ended up shooting their SAWs like bolt action rifles. And it was snowing like crazy.
Ft. Hood Texas is almost completely open range and the local cattle association grazes cattle there for a small fee. Evidently they have quite a bit of stroke. You were supposed to notify Range Control and go cold if cattle roamed out onto you impact area. After having to wait a couple of hours in the Texas sun for the cattlemen to show up and drive the cattle off we pretty much just quit seeing cattle on the range. It was mainly based on how much heat the particular CO could fade. Never saw anybody shoot one on purpose. Geez, they were cows.
During a combat pistol competition, a woodchuck ran across the range about 50 yards from the firing point. My buddy, who was firing, rolled it with the second shot from his .45ACP Government Model Colt.
