Bizzare range session

Needless to say I came home and called my CC company and asked to reverst the charge, they said they wouldn't when I left asking If I was welcome to return or was 86'd, for my years membership, I just signed up for another year and this was my first visit.

huh? Who is the 'they' in your statement? "They (the CC company) wouldn't reverse the charges" or "They (the range) wouldn't refund your membership fee"

I agree with these guys. A range can have any rule it wants. They may require you to stand on one leg when shooting. If you don't like that rule then don't shoot there. Ammo restrictions and buying only their stuff is just to make more money. Dumb, yes, but whatever. You might have even agreed to it on the fine print of membership. Of course, probably the membership rules don't have a rule about 'bothersome questions will get you kicked out' so I do believe while they are entitled to recind your membership, you should get your money back.

And of course HOW they chose to recind your membership was not right.

Has anyone ever had such a bizzare range session? There is another indoor range near by I'll start going to. And..they not only have a lower yearly membership fee...They also get the same reloaded ammo and only charge $95.99 for 500 rounds. Considering the frequency that I shoot 100-200 rounds 1-2 times a week it is a substantial savings. I probably shoot 1,000 rounds every 4-6 weeks and spent over $1,700 just on the reloads @ the other less friendly customer orientated range also the $150 membership & targets.

wait, why the heck were you going to the other range in the first place?

I've been falsely accused of shooting the ceiling / scaffolding a few times at another range in Burnsville, MN. With my rifle, a "miss" means I'm an inch off of center, so how the hell I'm shooting the ceiling is anyone's guess. With my handguns I seldom miss the paper but again I guess when they think they hear a weird noise they head out to the firing line and who gets yelled it is like flipping a coin. I do like this place so I keep going back ... not a bad place at all - just saying gun ranges are curious businesses.

BPR? I've never used their rifle range, but have been going there on and off since before they even put it in, back when the target carriers were just a toggle switch forward and back.

I never had a problem, although it seems that maybe "Range Officer B" being present sometimes makes "Range Officer A" be more strict than he normally would be.

of course, the flip side of that is ceilings/target holder DO get shot, and rarely do the people who do it admit to it.

Who is the 'they' in your statement?
The range
They (the range) wouldn't refund your membership fee"
YES
'bothersome questions will get you kicked out'
You obviously don't own or run a business or know the concept of customer service. I asked 4 questions. Any good respectible business person or employee would/should be happy to answer a customers question. Bothersome to who?

wait, why the heck were you going to the other range in the first place?
Closer to my house. Paid for a 1 year membership.

I know Shooters Paradise in Oxnard requires that you buy their ammo for most pistol calibers because if the lack of an adequate ventilation system. They supposedly use lead free primers similar to what Win Clean is. They also say that if you buy Win Clean you can shoot that, just have to show it to them when you come in. I think it is more because of the ventilation than anything, because 9mm is 12.99 per 50 for theirs, not that much more than WWB at wally world (not the valu pak), and if it is rifle or shotgun, you can shoot anything you want up to .50 cal.

I have heard stories about Firing Line in Northridge before, this just seems to validate that. Hope you get some redress in this situation. Keep us informed.

Jamie

Also, did you post this up over at Calguns? I am sure they would love to here about it.

Our local indoor range has changed hands 3 times over the years. In the beginning they had that negative attitude that made me turn around and walk out. Years later I heard they had changed, so I went back. At that time they had the "your brass is ours" rule, but I would never agree to such thievishness, so I pointed out that my brass was mine, marked with a Sharpie on the head and primer and I'd be leaving with what I brought to the range, thank you very much. I did as I said, their rules be damned.

Apparently many others objected to this stupid rule (theft) and they dropped it like a hot rock.

These days they are very customer oriented and nice people. I enjoy going there and apparently so do numerous others. I still take my brass home, but out of respect I only take my brass and leave all other brass untouched.

Fortunately i haven't been to a bad shooting range yet. I guess we are all nice here in the Houston area :D

Wow that is really bad. Its Crazy to follow someone out to their car cussing and threatening them. Nutzzo!

I have never had that kind of experience but have had interactions with a lot of rude employees.
At the gun store/ range closest to my house the employees there often have a rude style of interacting.

You all know how it goes…never saying “Hi hows it going? Thanks or your welcome….answering questions with the fewest words possible or just holding out their hand for an ID or what ever with out looking at you or saying anything that kinda “I am sooo cool and sooo put out by having to deal with you” vibe some people give off.

I really don’t see this kind of bad attitude ANY where else I go. What is up with some of these gunshop employees?

It has their email address and rules.
YES and I broke NONE of the rules. I asked 4 simple questions about the reloaded ammo they sell, 1) why it was more expensive than the factory ammo I could buy? 2) Why they couldn't/didn't sell the 10% downloaded ammo for less? 3) How was it they didn't/couldn't sell the Factory ammo and just mark it up the 25%? and 4) IF the guy who owns the range who is also the ammo manufacturer how can it be that other local ranges who buy his ammo can sell it for less?

I think these questions prefased with, "I have a Stupid Question" are NOT threatening and should be a no brainer. To be cussed out, verbally abused, physicaly challenged is strange at best.

For the terminally curious (like me),
I'm curious too and this is why I asked the questions. In a non threatening inquisitive way.

There's a place in PA called TargetMaster (about 45m away) who has a few odd restrictions -- they won't let you use the Walmart 100rnd WWB because they're sold less than for what they can buy them for. You can use the 50 round boxes, but noooo... not the 100 round boxes. No blazer ammo or smokey reloads or steel.

That was my primary range until I found out that a state public range was like 10 minutes from my house. $5 an hour, very friendly RO's, they'll let you pick through the brass and take whatever you like, they supply ears for free, cheap targets, cheap clay, free hunting classes.

For those of you haven't been. Glockman is right. Firingline Northridge is a piece of crap. I've rarely found people ruder than they are there. It's been years since Ive been in there and I see nothing has changed.

Glockman, if ya get up to Ventura County, visit Shooters Paradise. Very good guys and a nice clean range to boot.

That is among the dumbest things I've heard concerning what ammo you can use. You pay more so they can protest? Buy five 50 round boxes, then save the boxes after each session. Keep them neat. ;)

That's right Glockman. You broke none of their rules. I was just putting a "face with the name", so to speak. Maybe someone would like to send them this thread. Perhaps the owners would like to see how their "staff" treats their paying customers. ;)

$0.02

rude-yes

got to be something wrong with you to act that way towards someone that you KNOW is armed!:banghead:

but appearently stupid or high too maybe owner should drug test his employees!?

Perhaps lead poisioning?

Symptoms:
Behavioral symptoms in adults
Unexplained changes in mood or personality
Changes in sleep patterns
Inability to concentrate
Decreased sex drive
Memory loss
Irritability
Diagnosing lead poisoning can be difficult because many other conditions cause similar symptoms.

The range is the Firing Line indoor ranges in Northridge CA.

I think most folks in southern Cal know about these chuckleheads. Their reloaded ammo sells under the brand name "Cal-Ammo" at turners and several local ranges. I make it a point not to buy their product after friends of mine have also received less than stellar treatment at their ranges.

How they not only survive, but proliferate, is beyond me.

New rule: "Our ammo ONLY" at waayyy beyong price gouging rates...
Winchester White Box .45ACP $19/50
WWB .45ACP at Wal-Mart $20/100
Ummm ... been to Wal-Mart recently? WWB at mine was $29 + change for 100 rounds a month ago, and it's probably over $30 by now.

As to the "Officer" story -- obviously false. I'm sure former President Clinton established under oath that fellatio is not "sex."

Follow up

Looks like I'll be getting credited for my 1 year membership. Owner is reviewing video tape and range manager will hopefully be Disciplined, Transfered or Terminated. I also posted my experience in Calguns.net and she cam on and started to OUT me in a public forum and post my PM's for all to see. I asked teh mods there to delete and they did.

Here MY PM to her, :
First, Get some help. You're out of control. I can't wait until the video is seen by your employer. Sorry there is no audio so he could hear my polite questions and your condescendng vulgar, profanity laced diatribe. I know that you're going to look awfull bad in your actions, like a street thug following me out into the parking lot and getting so close I could smell your breath. You can only blame yourself for YOUR actions.

Since I never "Slandered your name" I just said I thought you were a B%*^H. You are. My opinion. I even deleted my comments after speaking with Burt, don't want them posted ask him to edit his post.

Truth is NOT slander.

Since I won't visit the range again, at least as long as you're there. Have a good life.

You and I do not travel in the same social circles, you are beneath me in every aspect of life, education and economically, so I doubt you and I will ever have a need to have contact ever again.

Like I said.

Have a great life..

Again, I want to thank all THR members who showed their support both Publicaly & Privately. It is truely a pleasure and blessing to participate in such a respectful forum. Proud to be a here with you all.

You ruin my day, I ruin your life.

I do not want to start a flame war here, or anything like it.

I am new here, so please excuse me if I am out of line.

But, this does not sound very "High Road" to me. It sounds pretty miserable, and I don't think that it is a good thing coming from people who believe in the use of guns.

What am I to think? With a statement like this, if I do something ruining your day, even if it is un-intentional, you are going to do something to ruin my life?

foghornl:
Reason I quit going to Sherwin Shooting (formerly Big Bore Specialties)...This was almost 2 years ago, and I haven't been back. Called about 6 months ago, same rules. They made the switch to new rules without any advance notice; when you showed up to shoot, you couldn't without buying their ammo. I was the third person to walk out that day.

Yeah - Sherwin Shooting Sports is a complete scam. Most of the employees (the older ones especially) are really rude as well - typical "I know more than you" attitude.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

Calling her names was out of line, but their behaviour to your polite questions was very poor customer service.

Update us on the owners decision.

Shoot, if they treated me like that, I'd be dialing the BATFE on my way out of the darn parking lot. ("I heard it was a good place for a straw purchase, that they'd sell felons guns, etc..")

Worst case scenario, the ATF leans hard on them and finds nothing. Best case scenario, they find something and shut 'em down. Gubbermint agencies are good at making mountains out of molehills, and loove their pics in the paper, so you'd best bet that they'd try to catch 'em doing something illegal.

Shooting Sports in Tampa told me to buy a Mossberg 500 in S FL after I politely said "Oh wow, they are $100 cheaper in S FL" with an intent on him saying "Well, I can take 10% off that price."

I said "No problem" and walked out. Haven't been back since, except to buy a gun FTF from a guy in the parking lot. He asked me if I wanted to go inside and test fire it. I took the chance just to not support them.

The St Pete police range seems good. I've been out there a couple times, but my buddy is pretty cool with the gentleman that works there, so I couldn't give an honest opinion.

Indoor Shooting Range is by far the nicest people I have met. It's a little small in there, and on the opposite side of town from the friends I normally go shooting with, but I'm gonna have to make more of an effort to support them.
