BL-C (2) in 223 Rem

I was at a gun show today, looking for 223 powder. I told the guy behind the table that I was shooting a mini-14 in 223. He highly recommended BL-C (2), so I bought it. Was this a good choice?

It works well, as do many others. It is in the top 10 at least, if not the top 5, in my opinion, for .223. You will be fine. I settled on H335 for overall .223 plinking, but BL-C (2) is very good as well. H335 shot a little better in my heavy barrel .222 Mag, so I went with it for .223 as well.

I like H335, can't get the all mighty Varget to do any better IMR4895 looks promissing, but haven't been out to test my loads. BL-C(2) is a good .308 powder, it came in some reloads I got with a rifle I bought, and they shot good.

Ball C is an excellent powder.... I use it for .308 and .223 with great results.

I use BL-C2 for the heavy bullets and H335 for the lighter bullets in both 223 and 308

I have three favorite powders that I use for .223.
BLC-2, H335 & Ramshot Tac (not listed in any particular order). All meter very well and burn clean.

I've tried most everything from H4227 to IMR4320 in the .223. (not to mention 700X, Bullseye, RedDot, BlueDot, Unique, ect with cast bullets....)

I prefer the BLC2 @ 26.9gr and 55gr bullet. I've also loaded up as heavy as 77-80gr with it. Still superior performance to "the mighty Varget".

The lot#'s of Varget I've tried, I couldn't get enough in the cases to approach the advertised velocities. BLC2 is tops, and only thing else really close is Reloader 15.

I've tried three lot#'s of H335, two of TAC, and currently playing with some BenchMark. Still can't beat any of the several dozen pounds of BLC2 I shot through the years. Heavier charge loads than H335, but more velocity and equal or better accuracy. Especially with bullets heavier than 55gr. (ie: 63 and 65gr Sierra's).

BL(C)-2 is W748? If so, lots of "most accurate" loads advertised in my various reading material likes it.

H322 and H335 are pretty popular. They burn clean, easy to measure, and flexible in most bullet sizes.

So far my favorite for .223, is AA2230. It works in most of the bullet sizes and is super easy to measure as it is like fine black sand. It is also one of the cheaper powders.

I have used Varget and R15 in the heavier bullets, 69gr and 75gr. They get the biggest nod from target shooters with the heavier bullets along with VV powders.

Varget did okay with 50gr V-Max, but not with 40gr Sierra HP. Like the others said, just can't get enough in case.

I'm with goose on the varget . I see a lot of people posting saying they use varget , but , I dont know how they get all of the charge in that case ? I like 748 . My Hornady book's burn rate chart lists 748 as #88 and Blc-2 as # 90 . So they very well could be the same powder . The load data is close but a little different . I still think 748 , 335 , BLC-2 all great powders for .223 . I do like varget in 22-250 though .

H335 gives a beeter velocity and accuracy for me than BL-C2. Use 4198 for economy.

is the smartest guy here, because those are also my three favorite powders as well. BLC-2 and Tac also work very well in the 204 Ruger.

Yes, Win748 and BL-C2 are indeed the same powder. Just that for many years, they were supplied by two different sources, and many different lot#'s.

With differering test equipment and different lot#'s, a lot of different data is floating around. Hence, the "apparent" differences in the two powders.....

Same situation exists for H110/Win296, and Win231/HP38, HS6/Win540, HS7/Win571.

I use BLC-2 exclusively for my .223 and have had real good luck with it so far.

I use Varget, H4895, and BL-C2. They all work well but you may find the BL-C2 works better with heavy bullets. I like the Sierra 63 grain bullets myself.

My current load of 25.3 grains H-4895 with a 55 gr soft point has worked out very well, best 100 yard group was 1.75", 4 shots. That's damn good for a mini-14. I hope the BL-C (2) does that well.

I've become a huge fan of H-4895, it rocks in my Remmy 700 .308 and the mini-14. They just didn't have any at the last gun show, BLC-(2) seemed like the best choice.

BL-C(2) works great im my .223 AR reloads for my Armalite. H335 is my favorite.

It hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'll chime in. I have had good success with Accurate Arms 2230 (and 2230C) with light to medium (69gr) bullets. I used it for my 2/300 yd loads for high power.
