I have a rearsenaled Russian SKS with the blackened bayonet blade. It seems to be paint, but I'm not sure.

What is the best way to remove the blackening from the blade? There is a small scratch through the black finish through which I can see that the blade still has chrome on it.

Thanks.

Mauserguy, I was hoping to use the bayonet to roast marshmallows with on our next outing and didn't want to get any paint in my food!

Thanks guys.

um... try using a stick... like most people :p

Your bayonet is not for making 'smores, it is for holding target. Paint wears off quickly when shooting beer can target.

So I'm told. Mine is a Yugo, the bayonet is some rough, silvery metal and sharp as a fence post. Looks like it would snap in two the first time it was used for the purpose intended.
