ok i am new to all this reloading. i have some once fired blazer brass that claims to be reloadable. i have the lee breech lock press and it would not seat a primer into the brass. bought the RCBS universal hand primer and it also will not seat a primer into this brass!

i am using winchester WLP large pistol primers for .45 acp.

i have not had any trouble seating these primers into my remington brass.

the blazer website states that the brass is completely reloadable but it also says that they use "standard" CCI primers. http://www.blazer-ammo.com/blazer_brass.aspx

when they say standard does that mean small? i thought that .45 acp required large primers. this is frustrating due to the fact that i have 100 rounds of this brass that i have been saving. any help?

No, "standard" means they are not Berdan primed like the aluminum case Blaser ammo. They use Boxer primers so you can reload them using "standard" American Boxer primers.

But, some brands of .45 ACP are using Small Pistol primers now.
Especially the lead-free brands.

Sounds like what you got.

I culled out about 50 of those Blazer Brass .45 ACP cases myself recently. A fellow shooter in the next lane at the shooting range offered me his brass, was happy to have it until I tried to re-prime them. I gave 'em away.

just took the electronic caliper to the primer holes of the remington vs blazer brass. the blazer brass is definitely set-up for small primers. oh well. guess i'll get some small primers, hate to waste all that brass.

So is there a corresponding adjustment in powder loads when using small primers? Any guidance anywhere?

Cheers,
Tom

I have about 500 empties of Blazer brass in 45acp, and all of them are Large primers.

Primers pockets wasn't cleaned but I measured about ten different ones and they ranged from .205-.208 with a depth of .121

Maybe they have changed or have different types that I haven't ran across.

Researched and answered my own question. The Speer manual recognizes that some mfgr. use small primers. They only comment that velocities will be reduced somewhat...

Cheers,
Tom

Yep, that is what a couple of folks here have seen when loading them.

JWB,

just rechecked mine and came out with measures of 0.173-0.175 for my blazer brass and 0.210-0.212 for my remington, pmc, and winchester brass.

wish i would have checked all that first. i wasted a few primers through this learning experience

Looks like I got lucky with the ones I got....possibly an older lot. Because the more I searched on blazer brass, it appears that they have went to small primers.

Went to the range yesterday and when I sorted range brass by caliber today, ran into Blazer and Federal 45 Auto cases with small primers.

Oh well, I guess I'll cull these out along with the FiocchiUSA 45 cases. I am keeping them in a separate coffee can. I guess when it's full, I could prime them with SP primers and shoot them separately?

Take one piece of brass with you when you go to get primers.
That way you can be sure to get the right size.
