Blues-be-Gone compliments of Bersa Thunder Pro UC9,,,

I called The Evil Pawn Shop Guy yesterday afternoon,,,
He confirmed my blues-breaker had arrived.

This is what was waiting for me,,,
Along with an extra 13 round magazine.

140724-UC9-09-Boxed-LR.jpg

It came with the fired shell casing and the usual paper stuff,,,
What surprised me was that it came with two mags,,,
Everything I read indicated it only came with one.

It accommodates 13 round mags which I now have three of,,,
Or 10 round mags which I intend to buy two of,,,
Just in case I travel to a 10 round state.

The action is DA/SA with a safety/de-cocker,,,
When the hammer is back, pushing the safety lever up de-cocks the pistol,,,
When the hammer is down, pushing the safety lever up disengages the trigger mechanism.

I have no idea why anyone would want to,,,
But it's impossible to have the hammer cocked and the safety switch on.

It's made with an alloy frame with steel slide,,,
Even then the pistol is still pretty beefy,,,
It does have a fat double-stack grip.

For size comparison, here it is beside my full size CZ-75B.
140724-UC9-01-CZ75B-Vert-LR.jpg

And here it is beside my Ruger LC9.
140724-UC9-06-LC9-Vert-LR.jpg

This pistol, like my Bersa T-22 and T-380,,,
Brakes down for cleaning very easily,,,
Rotate one lever and it slides apart.

She (I haven't named her yet) was swimming in oil,,,
I took it apart and cleaned the factory crud out,,,
Re-oiled it and am ready to shoot after work.

I have 100 rounds of FMJ in the range bag,,,
I'll let you know how she does after this evening.

Oh yeah,,,
$436.05 out the door.

If I would have went with the all black model,,,
It would have been $40.00 less.

So far, I'm one happy camper.

No pictures?,,,

So, why couldn't you have said that in the first place?

I know they are there,,,
I'm looking at them as I type.

Let me try to figure out what is going on here.

I thought the problem might be because I was viewing the post on my iPad, but that is not the problem because this is what I am seeing on my Macbook Air as well!

I believe I've fixed the image issue,,,

I believe I've fixed the image issue.

I uploaded the images to my personal website,,,
And recreated the links to them.

I have three as well,,,

I have three as well,,,
That's what prompted me to buy this one.

My Nickel Thunder 22 and Nickel Thunder 380 are great performers.
29-lynn_vanessa.jpg

I named these two Lynn and Vanessa after the Redgrave sisters,,,
They are both huge anti-gun activists,,,
I like Irony.

I haven't named the 9mm as yet,,,
I Googled "famous Argentinian actresses" for ideas,,,
One I recognized from the TV show Babylon 5 was Fabiana Udenio.

She also played the character Alotta Fagina in,,,
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.

I'm tempted to name her Alotta,,,
But I think I'll ponder on it,,,
I'm in no hurry at all.

Yes they are good performers, so much so that I purchased two Thunder 380s and a CC 380, but recently acquired a Glock42 that is slightly smaller and very soft shooting due to it's locked breech action. Still my hands down favorite 380 is my P238 at the top.

You got a good pistol. Mine has never gave me 1 bit of trouble . The Pro come with 2 mags In 9 mm 40 or 45. If you don't get 2 Some one is ripping you off .

Congrats! I've heard nothing but good about it. Seems like a great gun for the money. Only Bersa I have had is the BP9CC. I really liked it but my sister liked it more so now it's hers!:D

UC in 9mm and 40 S&W

If you are not aware of it, you can use the frame in either 9mm or 40 S&W. I bought mine in 40 S&W then acquired the 9mm barrel and magazines direct from Eagle Imports. It took less than one minute to change calibers. It's the easiest semi-auto I've ever owned to take down.

I found the UC's trigger pull to be too long for my liking. I got to the point where I did not shoot the UC so she just sat in my locker. I stumbled across a Browning BDA 380 at a LGS and made the tough decision to trade in my UC for the Browning. The LGS gave me a decent price for the package and sold it within a few days. I'm sure someone got a terrific deal.

I'm not trashing Bersa as I'm a strong believer in their guns but the UC just didn't work for me. I have a 1980's vintage M85 which is an all steel version of the Thunder 380 Plus. If I could find a M83 at a LGS, I'd jump on it.

Hello Scarpia,,,

I found the UC's trigger pull to be too long for my liking.

I will agree that it is a long pull,,,
I got to the range yesterday evening,,,
And that was the first thing I noticed about it.

Not so much how long it was,,,
But how much difference there is,,,
Between the double action and the single action pulls.

It almost gives the impression that it didn't reset at all.

That pull will take some getting used to that's for certain,,,
But except for the fact that I suffered from CHS,,,
The UC9 performed flawlessly for me.

Just under 100 rounds of 3 kinds of ammo,,,
Everything fed flawlessly with no ejection problems.

I can get used to the trigger. ;)

I found out how easy it is to take down,,,
Just as quick as her Thunder 380 and 22 sisters.

I didn't know that converting it to .40 was possible,,,
I'm going to look into that just for grins,,,
If it's cheap I might do it as well.

Again, I'm not knocking the gun, it's well done and some consider it Bersa's best piece. I paid about $175 for the 9mm barrel, 9mm slide and two magazines. There's YouTube videos about the conversion. One thing I did not do was to change the spring and spring rod. I did not see any reason to do so. The spring/spring rod worked equally well in both calibers.

There was a period where I carried it in 40 S&W and used it as range gun in 9mm. I have moved on in my carry options so that was another reason it sat in the locker. My Bersa M85 with the Thunder 380 Plus 15+1 magazine is one of my carry guns. The M85's barrel and I assume the Thunder 380's barrel are attached to the frame like Walther 380's which accounts for their superb accuracy.

I wonder if Versa will expand that line to a full sized offering... say a 4.5-5 inch barrel, longer magazine ( that could also fit the existing models like a Glock 17 mag in a G19.... Maybe a steel frame for those of us not averse to the weight.

That's funny,,,

I shoot one of 3 Bersa pistols and drive a Versa.

I wonder if Versa will expand that line to a full sized offering... say a 4.5-5 inch barrel, longer magazine ( that could also fit the existing models like a Glock 17 mag in a G19.... Maybe a steel frame for those of us not averse to the weight.

There is no need to expand their line,,,
A pistol like that already exists,,,
Except for the steel frame.

The Bersa Thunder 9 Pro has a 4.25" barrel and 17+1 capacity.

It's silhouette is so close to my CZ-75B that it's scary.

I haven't verified this as yet,,,
But I've been told I can put the 17 round mags in my UC9 Pro.

I know the 10 round and 13 round both fit in it.

I doubt very seriously if they ever go to steel frame,,,
I mean they could be planning this right now,,,
But they have good success with the alloy,,,
I doubt it would ever cross their minds.

No snark here...Bersa makes the Thunder Pro in 9mm and 40 S&W but with a 4.25" barrel. Maybe they do make longer barreled guns as you describe but are not marketed in the US.

http://www.bersa.com/bersa-firearms/thunder-pro-series.html

My guess...and I emphasize guess...is that they have a strong position in the 380 market. Many countries limit civilian calibers to 380 or less as compared to what their LEO's and military use. I believe Argentina is one. I asked one LGS why they don't have any Bersas, the guy looked at me and said 'because we sell them as fast as they come in'.
