bluing touchup

For small repairs of things like holster wear on the side of a revolver barrel and other small areas where bluing is missing or worn, what do you recommend?

Someone recommended Oxpho Blue creme at Brownells as being good, but I wanted to ask opinions here about what you like to do. Another person mentonioned just using a black Sharpie magic marker, but...

Aluminum requires a different process to color. IMO, shake and bake paints are probably the best bet for the casual DIY project. Birchwood Casey does make a touch up product (Aluminum Black), but I've found the results less than satisfactory YMMV.
