Hello all,
So I have always been interested in getting a set of body armor, and 2020 has finally made me pull the trigger. Without doing much research (not typical for me, but it happened) I bought a couple plates from Primary arms - level III curved ar500 plates with build up coat of lineX:

Then after receiving them, and seeing how dang heavy they were in real life, and finding out that level III doesn't even stop standard AR15 rounds, I went online to find some level III+ plates. I found this on eBay:

You can see from photo 5 in that ebay listing how much thinner these scorpion level III+ plates are compared to AR500 level III. I bought it and it just arrived today. True to the pictures, they are much thinner than AR500 plates.
My question is this... Am I getting duped by scorpion plates? Could they really be a more protective plate at 2/3 thickness and 2/3 the weight than the AR500 level III?
I am also looking at the DFNDR level IIIa lightweight backpack armor, but if these scorpion plates are legit, they aren't that heavy and provide much more protection that a light IIIa panel, so I'd rather put another steel scorpion III+ in my backpack and call it a day.
I'm a complete novice with armor, clearly, so would love some feedback.
Thanks!
