At the gun show today, a vendor said a bill is in Congress now to ban body armor. He said it passed the Senate and probably pass the House.
Any comments?
Thx

I don't trust anything I hear at a gunshow from a vendor without 3rd party verification.

I've not heard anything, but you might pop over to http://thomas.loc.gov/ and do a search for body armor or bullet proof vests or somesuch.

After all, there used to be (or still is) a vendor I'd see at the Indianapolis gunshows selling strike anywhere matches. His table always had a big sign 'Strike anywhere matches- get 'em before they're banned!' or something to that effect. Never did know if he was joking or a huckster.

4th, That same dirtbag has been saying the exact same thing for as long as I've been going to the Hampton gunshow. He sells crap vests, overprices them, and then uses some "about to be banned" hysteria to sell them. I've got no use for such scumbag salespersons.

Put another way, if there was such a bill, then you would find all sorts of information on web sites from vendors who do actually sell to the public. It would not just be some local vendor making such a claim.

It really is the same old song about needing to hurry up and buy now before before it is too late.

It's been my experince that much of what you see on tables at gunshows is about to be banned. If you don't buy it then, you'll never be able to get one...Pure marketing hysteria.

So they're free (as far as law is concerned, not price) and open to the public for purchase? I always thought body armor was like post-'94 hi-cap mags... police can have 'em but we can't.

dinoysusigma...........I don't know the law in every state but they sell them to non cops in PA. I do believe that PA has laws that address posessing/wearing body armor during the comission of a crime but I 'm not positive.

I'm not aware of any federal restrictions.

I'm NOT a lawyer..........nor do I play one on TV. So don't base an important decision on anything I post.

Well..... it's been a while, but if I remember correctly from elementary school a bill passes the HOUSE first and then the SENATE.... not the othe way around.

If he's got that much backwards, I wouldn't trust his knowledge of the internal workings of the federal government.

How did I know

you were referring to the Hampton Gun Show? :D

What happens is a Senator or a Congressman introduces a bill that never gets out of committee. The Congress-critter then says to his/her constituants, 'I tried to outlaw body armor, but the Republicans won't let me.' The idiot at the gunshow says to his/her potential customers, 'Get 'em now before they're banned.' It's a win-win for both less than honest people.

CA has that law b/c of a carjacker who killed a police officer and injured others. I hope it's written such that you cannot have a protective vest on during the commission of a felony. Whether you're Sanjay the Cabbie, Hakim the 7-11 (stop 'n rob) clerk, Pete the Pizza Man, Ahren the Armored Car Courier, or anybody else engaged in lawful pursuits, you shouldn't be prohibited from possessing or wearing a vest. If however you wear a vest b/c you're afraid of a shootout with law enforcement, well, felony enhancements or "state of mind" presumption for felony would be good for the DA. Gotta be fair.
