The great state of TEXAS
I must report a sad occurrance. A couple of friends surprised me at my Wild Bunch match Saturday, May 29 with the Alamo Area Moderators. We were shooting at the National Shooting Sports Complex off Culebra Road in San Antonio. Afterwards I went to eat with my friends. We went to lunch at Mamacita's Restaurant on IH-10 near Medical and Callaghan. When I came out to my car about 3:30PM I discovered that all my guns had been stolen. Someone had hammered in the lock with a screwdriver and gotten in and stolen my Huglu 20ga side by side shotgun, the Rossi Winchester 92 .45 Colt lever action rifle, my Colt 1911 pistol & rig and a Ted Williams 12 ga. pump shotgun. The police were not able to offer much hope for recovery, so I am afraid this ends my Cowboy Action Shooting for awhile. Maybe you could forward this info to other friends and acquaintances in hopes they can keep their eyes open at gunshows and pawnshops. Maybe, thru the grace of God, I can recover what is mine and no one gets hurt with these weapons. They also stole my billfold and an 8X Tasco monocular and my stash of quarters. Now I am having the fun of cancelling all my credit cards, as well.

Ted Williams Model 200, 12 gauge pump shotgun, 28” blued steel barrel, modified choke, SN P276336, with black plastic fore end and side saddle ammo holder, wood stock

Colt Government Model 1911, blued finish with wood double diamond grips, .45 ACP semiautomatic pistol, SN C-125641, engraved with "W.P. Gray XXX-XX-XXXX" on the frame and slide, with leather belt with brass US buckle and flap holster stamped "US" and leather magazine pouch

Rossi Model 92 .45 Colt lever action rifle, blued finish, wood stock, leather butt cover, SN AM024630

Huglu 20 gauge engraved side by side shotgun from DeHaan Shotguns, Model S-2, 26” barrels, 5 screw in chokes, fitted leather case, leather butt cover, SN 92078

George-

I am so sorry for your loss; and I hope your weapons are recovered
swiftly, and the perps prosecuted immediately. I'm in firearm sales
here in Alabama, and I will be on the lookout for your weapons.

BTW, do you know if the S/N's were entered into NCIC by your
reporting agency?

Sorry to hear of the bad luck. I hope for the recovery of your property.

BTW, I took the liberty of removing the numbers from your description of the 1911. They looked like SS numbers, and you don't want that published on the net.

Yeah, I was going to ask if that was a SSN but didn't want to draw attention to it. Good looking out, Larry.

Another one crossing his fingers for the safe return of your property, Grayrock. Keep us updated.

hit up all of the pawn/gun shops in your area (if you have the time) and hand out a flyer with the gun info you posted here.....I would also post a notice on shooterpagetx.com and post a FYI as well.

Wow, this happened in broad daylight? Sorry to hear it.

Where were you parked? Was this a seedy area? Were your firearms visible in the vehicle?

Sounds like "No country for old men" for real, sorry to hear that, the cowboy action guys are the biggest hearted and most pure of the gun enthusiast world....Damn shame.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.I've been there myself. No guns were taken but they got other stuff. They smashed the passengers window out and reached in. I never recovered anything and that was in Feb 09.I do wish you the best.

Be sure to keep an eye on texasguntrader.com too! I just did a search and didn't see anything like what you posted ... but you would know best by looking yourself.

Im always swapping guns in san antonio. I have tabs open now for Texas gun trader, texas gun talk, texas chl forum, glock talk and THR. Im always on the hunt for deals.

I'll keep an eye out!

Hope we can get these back to the rightful owner

Thanks for the emotional support. As far as the engraved number, it was already on the firearm, thanks to my now deceased father and his over-active Dremel tool! In one swift motion he turned a valuable piece of history into just a family heirloom. My 1911 was manufactured in 1920 and had many memories attached to it. This was the very 1st time I had used it in a Wild Bunch match.

I had backed into a tight parking spot near the front of the restaurant- where signs indicated the parking lot was under 24 hour video surveillance. The guns were on the back seat floor covered up by a coat. My guncart was in the bed of my truck- guess I need to get a fold up gun cart in the future. And my Stetson and 1911 holster were on top of the seat inside pretty dark tinted windows. Had the Ford factory anti-theft system. Guess I better scrape off my SASS sticker and get rid of the specialty HUNT TEXAS plates :(

I'll get some pictures up. How do I know if the info is posted to NCIC? Just take the detective's word that it will be or has been done? Or is there any way I can verify it?

Grayrock,
Sorry to hear you were robbed. Don't forget to check with your insurance company (auto & home) they might be covered. Plus, I'm sure you're an NRA member and if I recall you are automatically covered for $1,000 firearms loss--only a dent but it's something.

Good luck, and maybe they'll be recovered.

Yes I am an NRA member. How do I go about filing a claim with them? Can I file multiple claims to get up to the value of my loss? ("Multiple" being a claim to auto insurer, a claim to home owner insurance and a claim to NRA) I figure somewhere around a $3000 loss. Auto will cover $200, NRA $1000, Limit on home owners for firearms is $2500.

Grayrock, I'm no insurance guru, but my understanding is you can file with all three and as long as you don't "make a profit" you are good to go. Good luck.

Grayrock-

The agency that took your report, most likely evtered each weapon's
serial number into The National Crime Information Center Database. Here in
Alabama its illegal for civilians too have information obtained from this
type of computer; as its viewed as opening up a criminal investigation~! :uhoh:

sounds like someone was "casing" your truck and this wasn't some random burgalry.....

Finally talked to the PD today. They have no record of my report- only a log of my initial 911 call. They DO have the serial #'s off the form I faxed them almost a month ago. A nice young lady said she would "call downtown" and find out what the status is and call me back. I got 90 days to file a claim with my insurance- 1/3 of that is already gone.

Sorry for your unfortunate ordeal.

Were the guns in the trunk or inside the car?

If they were in the trunk and out of sight...either somebody watched you put them there or otherwise knew they were in there.

If they were inside the car in plain view...I must ask you....WHY???

I'm not trying to be a jerk but he already explained where they were-

I had backed into a tight parking spot near the front of the restaurant- where signs indicated the parking lot was under 24 hour video surveillance. It's really awful that this happened to you :-( It takes some major cajones (and not good ones) to steal from somebody's truck that you know has guns and probably just got done shooting them.

Rule I live by- if anything valuable in the car park it where you can see it. When we go fishing if we stop anywhere to eat we park the boat to where we can see it where we're sitting. Hindsight is 20/20 though, we only do that because of a theft incident some 20 years ago. It's not your fault this happened, it's just a shame there are piece of **** people out there willing to take what's not their's. I'll let you know if I see them on gunbroker, etc.
