BOLO San Antonio/ stolen guns

Sorry to hear about how easy they took your guns. I'll keep an eye out as I make my way around town. It should remind us how ineffective a locked car is if they want something from inside your vehicle. Similar theft happened to me in a Suburban at the Chili's at the Quarry many years ago. They took a purse from under the rear seat and a video camera from the rear seat in the middle of the afternoon. They missed my G17 under the front seat. I designed my handgun safe after that incident.

Grayrock - I can't help secure the long guns, but if you have a need to secure a handgun in your vehicle from time to time contact me and I will make you a special deal on one of our boxes.

Dont be so sure about that Warhawk.
Breakins of vehicles is the number one crime in Houston currently and I doubt seriously that San Antonio is any different.
In fact someone here at work who drives a 2006 Ford Focus had her vehicle broken into just yesterday at a shopping center.
Nothing of value was in the vehicle it was just her turn for bad luck.
They smashed the passager side window and rummaged through the vehicle and did not get a thing.
This is the lottery of crime in the big city.

Sorry about your loss Grayrock.

My truck was also robbed several years ago and they got a lot of valuables, including guns. Lesson learned - never leave valuables or guns in your car except when you MUST, and then always have your vehicle within eyesight and close enough to get to it in a few seconds (eg park by the window of the restaurant, and sit right by the window/door.

Post the details at the local ranges and cowboy shoots too.

The PD has no record of your report????

I would be making some serious phone calls and get that straightened out pronto.

FINALLY got a copy of the report- although it has yet to be assigned to a detective. The range has security cameras that loop every 10 days- so much for THAT lead. Fingerprints were a deadend as well. Don't know how long the restaurant keeps their video tapes. I have 90 days to file w/ my last chance insurance and over a 3rd of that is gone due to slow PD paper trail

Grayrock, you may have just been the victim of a BG that got lucky and discovered the guns in your truck. But my guess is that you were watched at the range and followed to an easy location for the BG to get a chance to steal the guns. It seems strange that in the short time you were having lunch and in broad daylight a person or persons cruising the parking lot managed to hit "just the right vehicle" and find the guns. Sounds more like you were targeted (no pun intended).

I am sorry for your loss and it may not help get your guns back but it might pay to warn the range security people or the ones that monitor the survailance cameras to be on the lookout for people lurking around the range, possibly using the range to spot a good haul. Catching the people involved in your theft might be the best way to locate your guns. Once arrested for another theft (or possibly an outstanding warrant) they might be willing to help recover victims property to get the prosecution to go easier on them. Just a thought. Hope you recover at least some of those great guns you lost.

I too am so sorry for your loss.
I also think some scum got lucky B&E your
vehicle. Those aholes will bust up your truck
for 50 cents (your loss is not their concern).
Some folks are certainly followed to be stolen
from. Scum come in all classes and types.
Sadly, SA is not immune to crime.

Apparently I was not the only victim who shot at this range. My Cowboy Action Shooting club no longer patronizes this range.

Okay, you shot at the range and then drove somewhere else, parked your vehicle that advertised that it might contain lots of valuables, didn't keep an eye on your vehicle while you ate, and got burgled. Tinted windows, 24 hour security cams, hiding items under coats, etc. doesn't stop car burglars. You even left your billfold in your car with your credit cards in it and you seem to be blaming the range for the problem, but the link you provide indicates there have been no problems at the range itself.

If other folks who shot there also went other places in town like you did with lots of gear in their car, possible wearing shooting shooting gear that advertised that they were carrying valuable gun stuff, and practiced the same security you did, then there is no surprise that somebody else has managed to get ripped off.

You know, police, swat, and FBI vehicles get burgled from time to time for all their great gear too. Advertising what you have isn't a good thing.

The shooting complex isn't the problem...as per the link you provided. Y'all not shooting there won't get people to change their less than unsafe practices of storing lots of valuable guns in their vehicles while not at the shooting event.

Man I hate to hear that. Anyone who would break into a vehicle in broad daylight is brazen. I often worry about my weapons that stay in my truck. Ill keep an eye out here in Arkansas. Maybe you'll get them back.

If I had to stow my guns in a car while I'm out I'd have a chain through the trigger guards and around the seat posts with a padlock.

That will discourage smash and grabs.

This site is a database for stolen firearms. It might be helpful. When you buy a used gun check this first.

I don't think your club stopped using that range because of thefts. Isn't it true the facility is only allowing shot gun shooting now?
