Bolt Action .223?

Hey all! I am interested in a bolt-action .223 rifle with wood stock. I also would like one that can be top-fed without having to remove a magazine or something, as well as one considered accurate. I plan to use it as a fun plinker as my uncle had a .222 Remington years ago that was a hoot to shoot offhand at water bottles etc. Also will experiment with target shooting but don't need a heavy match rifle, preferably something handy for offhand mostly.

Any recommendations?

I love my 527,but it's a micro Mauser action and haven't tried drop feeding it. Not sure how well it would work. Nice to switch between scope and open sights with quick release rings. Very accurate and she's classy!

That's an 18.5" barrel,scope is a compact Leupold,rifle is tiny and handy.

Until you got to the "lightweight" part, I would have said the Savage 12 BVSS "Vaminter" (Not the Low Profile DBM). Wood stock, crazy accurate, blind mag... It's not a "fancy match rifle," but it's a fluted heavy barrel hunting rifle.

A Rem 700 ADL plus a Boyd's stock can be done for about $500-550, which gives you options to get a custom LOP, and a profile which really fits your body, instead of the "one size fits all" factory stocks out there. Worth a thought if you can't find a wood stock model you like, the blind mag deal kinda limits your options.

Lots of hinged bottom metal rifles out there which could be operated like a blind mag - the Ruger 77's or Win 70's CRF is a little nicer for emptying through the top (although it's nicer still to simply dump the mag plate), as it's faster to empty a CRF than a PF.

Too bad you are not in Kansas anymore as there is a very nice CZ at the KCK gun library.
Only reason I didn't like it was due to the light weight barrel.

There is a single shot adapter for the 527 lineup, but I have absolutely no experience with it, just found it on the internet at jamescalhoon.com. if that's what you want, that would fit your requirements, I believe. My 527M is a fantastic little rifle, VERY fond of it.
