Hello friends :)

i was thinking... "well there are bolt action uppers for the AR in .50 cal...." and since i'm looking for a new .308 rifle for my collection, the idea of a .308 bolt action for my AR would be creat... the only problem is that i have NEVER seen one of those if they ever exist.

is there a Bolt action upper for the AR?

I heard there was a company making a single shot .50 cal upper. But why get a bolt action when you can get a 308 AR?

I've never seen a drop-in bolt-action upper that is 308 for ARs. In fact, the only bolt action upper I've EVER seen for AR's is a 50 BMG.

If someone DID create one, it would likely be prohibitively expensive, due to lack of demand.

Anyone that really wants a 308 AR has an AR-10, LR-308, or RRA-- and that is the best route if you are set on a 308 AR.

If you are trying to keep costs down and STILL have a better system than a drop-in bolt upper for the AR, I'd use the money to buy a .308 Savage.

For what a 308 bolt action upper would end up costing, you could have a VERY accurate bolt-action 308.

If priced right (between $300 to $400) I would be interested in a .308 bolt action upper. 16" stainless bull barrel, free float, flat top. but since the 6.8 spc has great ballistics it has pretty much filled that gap for me. (OK I still would buy one):D

I have had the same idea, the main problem would be that, with the bolt action .50s (IIRC), you have to take out the buffer from the tube, or else your bolt will be on constant pressure to close, and being single shot...that would not be nice if it slipped while you were loading. If you take the buffer out, it will be fine, but then you have to put the buffer back in to use the standard uppers....

How about a break action upper - cheap and easy to produce, no new engineering, basically a stripped down H&R handi rifle upper.

I was going to post the above as a joke but, honestly, if I saw such a beast for a little less than the cost of an H&R, I might try it.
