A ton to choose from, I don't want break the bank but I don't want cheap out...suggestions...AR 15 556 20inch barrel, long range target and critter hunting

I have the BCG linked from AIM Surplus. Very nice bolt/carrier, feels oiled when it is bone dry, and cleaning it is a breeze. No signs of even the slightest wear after a couple thousand rounds. I also like the M-16 carrier better than the AR-15, you're set for full auto one of these days. ;)

Everything I've gotten from Right To Bear Arms has been stellar. Their nickel/boron highly polished BCG is the nicest one that I've seen or owned. It has all the requisite testing and it comes with a sheet telling you what tests it has passed as well as the actual name of the tester who test fired it. If I needed another BCG, that's where I'd go. The guys running Right to Bear are all vets too, and they ship just about immediately. Can't say enough good things about their stuff and I have nothing to do with their business!

Lots of good budget options. The most popular being PSA and Aim Surplus. Lots of happy customers from both those establishments.

Right To Bear Arms 158 carpenter steel one is a good value. I have always liked Toolcraft. WC armory carries them in different coatings. The PSA premium ones are good too (wait for a sale). I would just make sure to get one that has MPI/HPT testing. There are all sorts of coatings out now, but phosphate has always worked great. I am going to pick up a nitride one eventually from WC Armoty. If you go with NIB make sure you go with a reputable company/dealer like Fail Zero. The NIB ones can flake. If you are looking into high end BCM/Colt/Daniel Defense/LMT are always good to go. Sionics has a NP3 BCG that looks very interesting It is supposedly a much better coating than NIB

I too have the nickel boron coated BCG from AIM Surplus and so far am very happy with it.
The powder residue just wipes off with a cloth. No solvent needed.

Way to many choices....now it seems like they are finding new coatings to use saw one oneline yesterday that was a diamond coated one...does the nickel boron reflect?

As mentioned... PSA and AIM offer GTG products... IMHO... a nitrated BCG has some redeeming qualities.

I strongly prefer Carpenter 158 for the bolt.

Tried and true material.

9310 is GTG ... as long as it is properly made.

Unless something better comes along, I will keep buying Nickel Boron BCGs. My first one from Fail Zero when everyone was calling them snake oil. It worked out better than anything else I have used, and all the subsequent ones have that finish on them. Not all FZ brand, but all Nickel Boron and love them. As others have said, slick and easy to clean up. I own a few from AIM, no issues.

I could have written the above, it reflects my purchases, experience and opinions as well.

while I do find it easier to clean, what I like best about NiB finish is that it's easier to see the spots you missed.

If you decide to go with 9310 steel over 158 for the bolt make sure you buy it from a reputable manufacture. 9310 is supposed to be 7% stronger than Carpenter 158, but if the heat treat is not done correctly it will cause failures. And yes the PSA deals are great sometimes. Rumor has it that their Premium BCG is made by Toolcraft

Went with a BCM...Still way to many to pick from, all the coatings they have out now are a great selling point.but to me a good cleaning and good lubrication does the trick, got 3 Sig AR"S, pistol.M400,and a piston driven DMR.all work great for what I have them for..just was away from the ar stuff for awhile now wanting to do a DI long range 556/223 and that's how this post started I didn't realize all the companys making ar stuff (sheesh overwhelming) new post comin BARRELS

BCM is good stuff. There are many companies making perfectly adequate to quite good stuff for the rifle. But my personal favorite BCG's come from BCM, Spikes and PSA. No other reason than individual HPT/MPI, not sample checks.

PSA really does have great sales. You can save a few bucks elsewhere for a phosphate milspec bolt carrier (Surplus Arms etc) but if you want boron coating etc watch PSA. They currently have one for $100.
