Books about the S&W Revolver

Well, my first very own thread!

I would like to educate myself about the history of S&W revolvers and learn about all the different models.

Could you folks suggest some good books for me (the more pictures the better!)

Jack, The "Bible" for S&W collectors is "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd edit. by Nahas & Supica. Next is probably "Smith & Wesson 1857-1945" by Neal & Jinks, "The History of Smith & Wesson" by Jinks, "Smith & Wesson American Model" by Pate and then "Smith & Wesson Revolvers" by Parsons. Get those 5 books, read them, and you will know 90%+ of all there is to know about collecting S&Ws. There are numerous other books, however they don't hold a candle to the above 5 books, in my opinion. Ed.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson is the place to start. I'm not a big Smith person, but I have the book (several editions).

Let me just beat a dead horse by also recommending the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

Please make sure you get the new 3rd edition - which has color photos where the 2nd had b&w. You will LOVE this book and find yourself opening it frequently to answer literally any question you have about S&W guns. So much information and all so fabulously presented. A must.

"No Second Place Winner" by Bill Jordan is an inexpensive gem that has some good stuff on certain models of S&W revolvers, relating to peace officer use of revolvers in the 1930's-1960's era, including the Combat Magnum, later termed the M19, and the development of the .41 Magnum.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd. Edition.; by Jim Supica & Richard Nahas is the best place to start, in my opinion. I am glad that all the pictures are in color now!
