Looks like Shawnee fixed you right up...

Also...read some of Jim Carmichel's books. Good reading about a good man...

I never met Jack O'Connor but I have read his books.

I have spent some range time with Jim though...he lives just up the road. (that is not to say we are best buddies or anything...we have met)

If you've never read Jack O'Connor, you're in for a huge treat! He was an incredible writer and story teller. While much of todays hunting "stories" cut to the "639 yard shot", Mr. O'Connor truly knew how to write and how to tell a hunting story. I discovered my Dad's copy of The Art of Hunting Big Game in North America by Jack O'Connor. It is a classic book and I as a young boy I read it cover to cover, digesting every word of it. I also read Dad's copy of the Complete Book of Rifles and Shotguns.
eBay is the best place to find his books at reasonable prices.

You guys are gonna make me cry. Nostalgia is a bygone word in today's internet world. Read O'Connor (but don't believe his everlasting love of the 270)...read Carmichael... read Keith...read Simpson..and most of all, read.

The old articles and books contain nuggets of truth that are well worth the mining. I cut my teeth on them. And still find room for reminding.

I got "Sheep and Sheep hunting" and it was great, very informative and had lots of stories as well.

If you are ever in Lewiston Idaho, I highly recommend you go to the Jack O'Connor Hunting Heritage and Education Center. It has dozens of his mounts and some of his guns, its great...see link.

Of course you were only a few years old when he died
