Bottom Metal for M40A1

I'm doing an M40A1 build. McMillan wants to know what "bottom metal" I'll be using so they can make the right cut in the stock. They said my options are DD Ross and something about custom Winchester (don't remember exactly what they said).

What do you guys say? This won't be an exact replica, but if I can make it close to the original M40A1, that would be great.

Not a problem, I highly recommend signing up over there, its a bit more specialized than here for precision rifles.

I use both.

I was actually looking at the Williams bottom metal. I appreciated your explanation of that button inside the trigger guard and your comments on its quality. It's also a good price.

By the way, McMillan wants to know what cut to use for the bottom metal. The choices they give are DD Ross and something like custom Winchester. Is the DD Ross just the standard Rem 700 short action pattern/shape? Specifically, if I get the Williams short action bottom metal for Rem 700, would I tell McMillan to just use the DD Ross pattern for the bottom metal cut?

Just tell McMillan you have the Williams bottom metal and they will know how to cut the stock for it.
