Went into Dick's Sporting Goods in eastern Pennsylvania today, they had probably 25 boxes left sitting on the shelf. Still no 9 mm's or .22's

I've been lucky enough to be able to purchase a box or two at a time of .45 from my local gun guy. It's the pretty junky PMC, and it's running about $5 over per box what it did 4 months ago, but it's available for practice plinking and I have enough good stuff to keep my 1911's loaded for SD use when out and about.

Thankfully, my .45s are not picky about any ball ammo. I regularly ran Tula through them when it was available at under $15 per box at Wally World (those were the days:()

It's more than I would like to spend, but it's within market demand and not what I would consider gouging when places are trying to push a brick of .22 for 80 bucks. They only sell it as range ammo or might let a regular customer take home a box, so it's not getting snatched up and horded. It's a fair business practice, IMHO. Gun guy can still help us feed our pistols at a price point that is "reasonable", he makes a little scratch on the range time fee, supply is controlled so that casual shooters can still afford to practice at only a small premium over what it was like before the hysteria.

In my neck of the woods, Academy Sports shelves were completely filled last Monday with major brands of ammunition. They even had 44 Special RNL which I haven't seen in a long time. Prices seemed to be at the normally exorbitant level ... I didn't really notice.

They're limiting sales to three boxes of cartridges per person per purchase and only one box per caliber. Rationing at it finest.

Their pistol display cases were completely filled too. Still thinking about that SR40c.

I bought 6 boxes of 9mm Remington at Dicks this week for $14.99\ea

My lgs has been getting a fairly regular supply of 100 ct. wwb 45acp. Picked up a couple boxes for $38 each. Even cheaper than wal-mart.

I'ts the Dick's near the Willow Grove Mall in PA, outside of Philly. Not far from where the Naval Air Station used to be.

While I'm happy that the OP was able to find ammo, I do wish to remind those who have made purchases at Dicks, or are considering doing so to read the following:

http://www.rrstar.com/news/x1353223483/Dicks-takes-AR-15-off-shelves-in-wake-of-school-massacre

I used to shop there all the time, but in the wake of their corporate leadership seeming to think that their gun inventory should change at the drop of a hat based upon the fervor of a few anti-gun zealots is alarming to me. I wrote corporate a letter to such an effect and never heard back from them.

I've spent thousands of dollars in golf, gun and other equipment over the years with Dicks and I find this kind of treatment as both a customer and a pro-Constitution citizen appalling. Please forgive me if it appeared I was derailing the thread, but in case this changes your mind in the future, it is food for thought...

That's WELL cheaper than anything around here. Color me jealous no matter what the quality of the ammo.

The best I've done is 7 boxes of hollowpoint Aguila for 16.95 plus 20 bucks of shipping online. so that's 19.81 each after tax shipping and everything.

Locally the best is, oddly enough, hornady steel match for around $21 at academy sports......if you wait outside the mornings of their two delivery days.:banghead:

Every Dick's I have been in sells only Remington ammunition which I would not use even if you gave it to me. Friends don't let friends shoot Remington ammo. IMO. I also cannot stand to deal with the kids they have working the gun counter. I have handloaded all of my ammo since the 80s and if I had to use only what stores like Dick's sells I would find another hobby. Really poor quality.

Buying at Dicks

Thanks for pointing out the fact that they removed product from their shelves. On the other hand, I was unaware of this newspaper story. I was not suggesting that people patronize Dicks. I was merely pointing out that sometimes it is still possible to to buy ammo at reasonable prices, and who had the ammo.
