Picked it up used, but in near new condition today. 9 x 18 mm Makarov pistol. Very small and easily concealable. Am looking forward to shooting it this week.
I had every intention of picking up a Bersa or Kel-Tec to keep in my pocket, but this gun is well made. I hear they are very accurate, will let you know next week!

Congrats! I'm sure you will like it a lot. Not only is the Makarov quite accurate, it's a very reliable design.

If your Mak has the grips put on it by the importer, or the original issue grips, you may find it a bit uncomfortable to shoot for extended sessions. If so, pick up a set of Pearce Grips, which make the Mak a very comfortable gun to shoot, IMO.

Makarovs are evil guns. If I'd bought my Mak first I probably would not own my SA XD-9, KT P-11, and maybe not even my Beretta Tomcat, all purchased while in search of the best carry gun. The Mak instills the idea that you can buy a great pistol for not much money. It's a communist plot.

Such poor timing that I read your post now. I'm thinking of which gun/guns to spend some "found money" on, and the Makarov is on the list. (see my recent thread here)

It just hit me that part of the appeal to the Makarov is in the huge cult following. There are websites with how-to information and accessories everywhere.

Nearly everyone who has bought one has been well-satisfied with it. The ones who are not crazy about them can at least admit that it is a hell of a gun for $150.

I think I'm going to get one; you've put me over the edge.

They are a heck of alot of value for the cost.I was looking for something that had more bang than a 380 yet not as much as a 9mm parabellum.it had to be affordable and at the same time reliable, accurate and well made without plastic substitutions of steel parts.I found that in my makarov.the barnaul jacket'd hp ammo costs me around 5 bucks a box of 50.some mak ammo is loaded hotter than others and sometimes some mak ammo will work in some maks but will hang up on the feed ramp of others.get a box of brand x and try it then on to another till you find what you and your mak like.get a case later and save even more money.
:D

Funny you should mention it.....

Told my youngest son just today that I'd buy him a Mak if he'd go get his firearms safety cert (CA req). He wants one badly. My son-in-law and my brother-in-law both have Maks and swear by them. If I like the Mak I buy my son, I might get one myself.

My friend and I did a little outdoor shooting this weekend. We did some friendly competition. I guess he had an off day, while I was smokin'.

First I beat his FAL with my little shorty AMD-65. Next I topped his Ruger P89 with my Glock 30, which is the reverse of the usual case. His Ruger is an accurate gun, and even I'm better with it than my Glock.

Finally, I loaded my Bulgarian Makarov. It's quite accurate, but I even surprised myself. Like I said, I was having an 'on' day.

Loaded with Barnaul 95g FMJ, it felt like a popgun after the Glock. First I cleaned his clock at 'Wiffle-ball golf' at 20-30 yards. Next, at 100 yards I knocked over an empty gallon milk jug with my first shot. The next shot hit a full one standing next to the first. It didn't move, but I could see a stream of water start to squirt out.

He was by the truck reloading a mag. I glanced back to see if he was paying attention. "#$&%*!! (grumble, grumble) nice shooting." Yep, he was! :D
