Bought a new Taurus Judge today. One shot and ...

You know, I own all types and brands of guns, revolvers and semi autos as well.

To listen to people bash the Taurus brand is just crazy. I'll bet most have never even held one, let alone fire one, and are just repeating things that they've heard others say.

Don't get me wrong, I own Sig's, springers, Beretta's and Smiths, but I own Taurus guns as well.

I'll put ever Taurus I own against any other brand any day of the week. And as far as some Taurus guns go.... I have a PT92 that I prefer over the Beretta 92. The PT92 was designed better and has a decocker "on the frame" and it is just as if not more accurate than the Beretta.

For someone to say they had a gun explode and not take pictures for a possible lawsuit... YEAH RIGHT... no pictures, it didn't happen.

I have a Taurus M65 .357 that will shoot with any S&W on the planet...

Let's be honest.... there is nothing wrong with Taurus guns....

I'm not sure if this is directed at me but, if it is, I have no idea what you mean by 'Smartgun fiasco'. If it's not directed at me, then nevermind.

Nope, Highland Ranger brought it up.

sorry to hear about your misfortune. glad to hear you didnt get hurt. your real problem has just started, dealing with taurus's customer service! of which there really isnt any!
I took it right back to the gun shop where I bought it, so I didn't have to deal with Taurus customer service personally. However, the gun shop owner said - at least with my gun - that Taurus had the best customer service of any manufacturer he had seen in over 20 years of owning the store.

They express mailed him the box to send it back to them in, then they fixed it quick, and express mailed the repaired gun back to the store. So I got my gun back within 10 days. All at no charge, of course.

I know this is just one instance, but Taurus CS did come through, at least this once. I can't speak about their customer service in other matters, as this is my only experience with 'em.

There's a post from a few days ago at thefiringline.com talking about that happening. It's in the revolvers section under "Judge Mishap" or something like that.

Found the post:

In all fairness, the firingline post, the guy had only made 2 posts... both bashing Taurus guns.

Never in a million years would I expect a handgun to blow it's barrel, let alone on the very first shot.

If this happened to me, I'd have fired another round, or six. You know, checked for grouping. If it shot 10 inch groups at 20 ft. (not likely) I'd keep it as a carry piece. But few of us Canadians can carry, or can even own handguns with less than a 4 1/4 inch barrel. Too bad.

I still wonder why people buy judges. Sure they shoot 410's and 45 colts but they do neither very well. They are more of a gimmick than anything imo.

With 000 buck loads, they're pretty decent for home defense, especially for apartments and homes in crowded neighborhoods. I'm not going agog over 'em, either, though. I don't figure a .38 snub is totally lacking for self defense, in the house or otherwise and I don't live in an apartment.

What they AREN'T is outdoors guns. They don't shoot much of a pattern past knife throwing distance and the excessive free bore assures lack luster accuracy with .45 Colts. They're big, they're bulky, and, well, I don't buy inaccurate revolvers. I figure my M85 will shoot as well at 25 yards off the bench and it fits in a pocket.

But, whadda I know? Taurus is selling these things faster than Carter sells liver pills. Gimmick it may be, but it's a hot selling gimmick. Somebody's buying 'em for something and those that get them seem to be enthralled with them for some reason. LOL I don't know, I still don't want one.

The good news is it's under lifetime warranty. And, from what I'm hearing, either all those horror stories about slow and no customer service are a crock or Taurus has their act together lately. The few I've heard about being sent back (net stories, I admit) have been dealt with pretty quickly and with decent communication. I haven't had to use Taurus's customer service, but wouldn't hesitate to do so if need be.

In reality, there have been instances of multiple .357 Magnum S&W revolvers losing barrels during qualifying with a state prison system. The X-Frame revolvers had the same problems when introduced. Ruger's early Redhawks also had this problem. It's not unknown, just fairly rare in Taurus.

I would be hesitant to believe much U-tube. Too many incidents are carefully staged, with modified equipment, and groomed actors and actresses.

Oh GREAT...I just got the happy Christmas hint that I'll soon be the proud owner of a Taurus JUDGE (3-inch barrel)...with the exception of the freaky post above, all I've heard are good things about the weapon. It got great reviews in several gun magazines...I'll wear a welder's mask when I fire it the first time...<g>...

Is it possible a 3" .410 shell was fired in a 2 1/2" chambered Judge? The American Rifleman article mentions the potential for disaster if that were to occur.

but I didn't take any pictures.

That's interesting. Color me skeptical, to say the least. No problem getting a pic of the "repaired" one, though.

but it is a video of a barrel blowing off of a Taurus revolver, enjoy!!

How do you figure that's a Taurus? Might be, might not be... you really can't tell from that video.

I would be hesitant to believe much U-tube. Too many incidents are carefully staged, with modified equipment, and groomed actors and actresses.

Same goes for gun forums.

Not in my case. I had just bought 2 1/2" shells from the same place I picked up the gun. I don't even own any 3" .410 shells.

I'm going to make a wild guess here and state that if I had taken pictures you still would be skeptical.

SO, send me a PM and I will give you my cell phone number and we can talk about it. I'll also give you the phone number of the gun store I took it back to who sent it in to Taurus for the repair.

I am telling the truth. I'm also telling the truth that Taurus fixed the problem quickly and, so far, no more problems and I really like the gun.

But, like I said, if you have any questions, send me a PM and let's talk about it.

PcolaDawg: I'm glad no one was hurt in this.

What brand and type of ammo were you using? I'm just wondering if the ammo may have been a contributing (or the causing) factor in this.....

I've had nothing but good experience with Taurus guns. They've had some problems with early runs of their more innovative products (i.e. Titanium revolvers, early Millenniums), but those are eventually fixed. Their "bread-&-butter" guns (PT92, DA revolvers, etc.) are great. I'd buy one again...

The way he describes it makes sense to me. If I bought a gun and immediately took it out to the range and had the barrel blow off of it and I wasn't hurt by it, the first thing I would do is take it right back to where I bought it and ask them to make things right. I don't carry a digital camera around with me and I suspect most other folks don't either.

Good luck with it. I had two Taurus revolvers and neither were worth owning. I will never have another, even for free!

The first would not fire double action due to excessive cylinder slop. After returning it to Taurus for repairs, it was returned with the same problem.

The second was given to me since it would not hit point of aim till the rear sight was almost falling out.

Never again!

PS. I have years of experience with various guns including Bulls-eye competition. It was not my skill or lack of experience causing the issues.

The really funny part is the people requesting the pictures would probably say it was photoshopped.

Anyways, I believe you man. Everybody gets a lemon and just because you didn't get one photo of it doesn't mean much as you have offered your cell number and the number of the shop.

Personal Protective Equipment...

I love Taurus weapons!
I just make it a habit to always fire them with gloves, and a full face motorcycle helmet, (with safety glasses and earplugs on underneath)!

I have heard many horror stories about their lack of customer service.
I blew the barrel right off the gun
Did you get that at Cabella's? :barf:

The way he describes it makes sense to me.

I absolutely agree. PcolaDawg's account of the incident sounds entirely plausible to me. And what's the basis for the skepticism? Because he didn't take a photograph? There are people who would argue that the photo had been "retouched", altered in some devious way to deceive or simply a contrived hoax designed to bash the Taurus lovers.
Some of you apparently would doubt his story even if you saw the nailprints in his hands.

What brand and type of ammo were you using? I'm just wondering if the ammo may have been a contributing (or the causing) factor in this.....
The ammo that I used was a Remington 410 2 1/2" #6 birdshot. Since I've gotten the gun back, though, I've used the same shells with no problem.

As Fuff said, it happens to Rugers too. First shot out of a used Redhawk.
Not mine, this pic lifted from another post.
Did you read that "another post" where you lifted the pic from?

First, it was a USED gun. Who knows the history of it.
Second, it was an EARLY Redhawk, when they were having problems with the lube they were using during the assembly process when threading the barrel into the frame.
Third, at least Ruger has a top notch customer service that stands behind their product. My experience with Taurus' customer service in Miami was crap!
