I bought a used gun and later noticed it had been engraved crudely with a date . Has anybody had this happen to them before?

don't feel so bad ask the tread head what the DAT in hankdatank1362 stands for

Think of it like it's a hot chick who has a tattoo.

You say this like it's a bad thing? That tattoo just made her look even better :D

How deep is it engraved? Most engravers I've seen don't seem to engrave far. Looks as though they can be sanded down a bit and reblued, as previously mentioned.

The date probably had significance to whomever put it there. Something happened, that they thought the gun should remember.

What kind of gun is it?

1. The date could be from the police when they seized it as evidence, if that's the case then it should also have initials of the LEO near the date.

2. It could be "Bubba-fied". One of the previous owners could have done that for reasons only he can explain.

3. PanzermkII, I took his screen name as "Hank - Da -Tank 1362". He's a DAT if an M60 series or eariler series crewmen. If he's a 19K (M1 Abrams series) then he's a CDAT. ;) Still better then being a "Crunchy".

I bought a used .410 over and under that someone engraved their ss# in - it was used what can you do? I left it thinking it would look worse if I tryed to scratch it off.

Maybe after I retire and have lots of extra time I will attemp to hide it with another engraving.

its a fie titan 25 auto i bought for 40$ at a gun show. I cleaned it up and shot 200 rounds through it without a failure at all. Its my garage gun. marked j.n.f. 8-2-73 on the right of the slide.

Well, that doesn't help quite as much as I thought. Got a good deal on it though. .25s aren't much to mess with.
