After a few semi-autos, I've joined the revolver crowd. Bought a Ruger GP-100, stainless, 4" barrel on Monday. Beautiful gun, can't wait to shoot it!

You will be pleased.....

I rented a 4" GP100 at my local gun range and after a few single action squeezes, I was utterly amazed at the gun's accuracy.

Prepare to be impressed.

Great gun..will last forever....the trigger will get better the more you pull it..dry fire the crap out of it......some people have problems with the grip using full house 357's...if it pulls some skin off your hand, switch to a Houge monogrip......

My first revolver was a Ruger Security Six. That was back around 1979. Like a Timex, it still ticking. :)

[Mr. Burns voice] Excellent! [/Mr. Burns voice]
A better all-purpose handgun for the same dollars is very hard to find.

Just checkin' back.....

Well, c'mon Lord Bodak. How DOES it shoot? It has been a week since you first posted. Don't tell us you haven't shot it yet!

I'd be goin' nuts with anticipation by now. Let us know what you think when it loses its virginity!

I have the same gun. It's my only .357 revo and the only one I'll ever need or want. Hope you have the same luck.

He's probably still in the range loving his new toy.;)

Sorry, hadn't made it back. Been busy with a few other things (broke up with my girlfriend)... but I took it shooting last Saturday and put a box through it. Shoots great! Not quite as accurate as my dad's 6" 686 (but I wasn't expecting it to be with the 4" barrel), but it balances very well for me and I like the trigger.

One thing I don't really like is the black front sight. Any alternatives?

front sight? was just looking at that for this 6 inch stainless short lug GP100 i got a few weeks ago. Love it! It's a heavy sucker and aint gonna get carried much (maybe in a waggon pulled behind). But it's a hoot to shoot. Looks and feels rock hard and solid. Gonna hafta dryfire it some. I kept heeling it over low-left when i took it out to play yesterday.

Check Natchez and Midwest
Millet makes front blades in white and orange.
Williams makes fiber optic sets (front and rear). The rear site is supposed to fit to the existing rear base. For the front sight, GP100 parts diagram indicates a spring behind the pin on the ramp at the muzzle; pushing back the pin should unlock the front sight so it could be tapped out sideways. (but i think i'll check with someone on the board here before i go beating on mine.)

oh - and you can look here

I've seen the Millet front sight on their website, but it doesn't say if it's the same height as the factory front sight. Any ideas?

I put a fiber optic front sight on my GP100. Mine is made by Marble's. Midway has them. They are listed under Marble's Ruger Super Redhawk fiber optic front sight .332. They work great on a GP100. You can sure see them better than the factory sight. Here is a link to Midway -

Do a search for Ruger sights and you will find them.

You can't go wrong. Only with mine I'm discovering it wants to print low at 25 yards. The guy I bought it from says I need to shoot a heavier bullet.

Part of the fun of shooting is finding out such answers.
