Well we went to the gun monger after work and picked up the .41 magnum Marlin Lever. I guess the wife was sick of me saying I want a lever action for four years.

It fills a niche for me. I wanted a pistol caliber lever action carbine that held 10 rounds, looked good and packed a decent punch. I also enjoy the fact that not everybody and their brother has one and since variety is the spice of life I am glad to add a new caliber to the fold. Twoblink and his tactical logistics ideas are shaking their collective heads at me right now I just know it.

Anyway I have only torn it down, cleaned it and function tested some rounds in it just by cycling them but so far all looks good.

The rifle is a looker. Very nice wood for a modern CAD/CAM mass produced gun and the checkering looks and feels nice. The rifle is tight and feels well put together. Everybody seems to love Marlin levers and I have nothing but praise for my 882SS so we shall see.

So what kind of ammo should I be looking for. What grain, bullet type etc. I know that I need to stay away from pointy bullets in tube magazine but other than that what should I look for. How about hollow points?

Well any sage advice would be appreciated. Here are some pics for those, like me, who like a little online gun show now and then. :D

Dude, are you not reloading yet? Cause you're gonna have to, now. .41 mag factory ammo is basically ludicrous.

That's a beautiful gun, and I bet it'll shoot sweet as honey. I don't have a rifle in .41, but would guess based on experience with my 1894c (.357) and reading around that you'll have the best luck with standard-to-heavier weight bullets, though not perhaps 265 gr. monsters, which may be too long to cycle reliably. I'd grab a couple of types of 200s & 210s and see what it likes. I'm partial to the idea of JSPs in a rifle, particularly since you can't get Gold Dots in .41  Not too many other HPs I'd trust to stay together at rifle velocities--which I'd be curious to know, if you do any chrono work with it. I bet you can get a 200/210 gr. jacketed bullet up to 1800 fps without pushing too hard.

Let us know how it shoots!!

Nice wood and even nicer that the foreend and stock match. :)

Man that is some sweet looking wood. I personally like Winchesters a little more than Marlins, but Marlin seems to be using much better wood these days.

To the "Slingers"...

After I looked at your pictures, I took my 1894C out of the safe and wiped her down again. You should SEE what a "Rig-Rag" does to that great bluing! And Marlin surely has great bluing.
