"...What is Second Chance?..." It was the pin shoot that started all pin shooting. Ran on, Dick Davis', the owner of Second Chance Body Armour, property near Central Lake, Mi. Not far from Traverse City, Mi. Ran the first week of June. Might have been the second week.
Dick used to say he invited 500 to 600 of his friends over to shoot. Never heard a raised voice from any of 'em either. Not even a parent yelling at his/her kid. Dick set up the whole property, 600 acres, as a range to shoot everything from .22 pistols up to and including .50 BMG 's. Fireworks display most evenings too.
Your entry fee,(less than $250US, as I recall) covered your Main Event(3 tables of pins at 7 yards with the pins 1 foot from the front of the 4' x 8' table), paid the timer babes plus your lunch and dinner for a week. Accomodations and breakfast was up to you. You could camp for free on the property though. Pay as you played after your Main Event was done. For example, the PEE event was an SMG event using a provided SMG(or your own) and ammo.
All the big name pro shooters, some gun rag writers and big name gunsmith shops were there. You could pay for ammo and shoot a bunch of assorted belt fed MG's or SMG's plus firearms provided by factory sales reps.
Best vacations I've ever had.
Sadly, local politicians and anti-firearm locals decided they didn't want the millions of dollars dumped into the local resort area economy, annually, and moved to end the shoot using frivolous law suits and outright lies.
