Boycotting FN from here on...

Don't be mad at FN.....it's their company and their decision. Be mad at politicians who put so many restrictions on US citizens and gunmakers and at Winchester for selling off the company.

By the way, the winchester employeees is new haven got kinda screwed when winchester sold out and closed the factory here in ct. People who had been building guns for 20 or more years now need to search for jobs at the age of 50 or more. And I'll bet you can guess the amount of new gun factories opening up for them to work in.....

I'm going along with it. Boycott the Dutch even though FN is in Belgium. I'll have to find my wooden shoes elsewhere.

Well, it's been announced that FN is going to build the model 70 at their plant is South Carolina (that's in the USA ), so you'll have to find someone else to bother.

Well, that's a different kettle of fish altogether. As a NC native, I strongly urge everyone to BOYCOTT SOUTH CAROLINA! :)

FN buys Winchester. Kills the classics...
Given the nature of our capitalist, free-market economy, I'd be so bold as to say Remington and Savage killed "the classics."

Besides, I don't speak freaky-deaky Dutch.

FN buys Winchester. Kills the classics...

If it weren't for FN, the Winchester "classics" wouldn't have lasted as long as they did. FN pumped in money into a losing cause for years before they finally gave up.

You cant please everyone, so if them making some sound business decisions based on what is best for the company irks you a bit....dont buy them. But for some reason I am having a hard time of figuring out why that would constitiute the reason for a boycot on a large scale.

What ever floats your boat, but from a business angle those were sound decisions.

The history of FN and Winchester is more like a rescue attempt that failed than the exploitation of tradition. If Americans had bought more the plant would have made more and it might not have closed, but when nothing new is offered and every third house has a Winchester rifle there's little reason to keep the doors open when demand doesn't pay expenses.

PS - I hate the Dutch too for what they did to the Belgians.

FN fans!

COme check out www.fnforum.net

Fn is starting to take a role in our site and is conducting question and answer sessions every 1-2 weeks.

Note, we are not affiliated with the Five Seven forum. Many people get us confused.

I spoke with an FN Rep at one of my local shops a few months ago and he said to expect the SCAR in mid 2008. There is already a mounting waiting list and he didn't give a firm price but he did say it wouldn't be more than one of those horrific SIG AR/15 wannabees!
I was drawn into this thread by the OP Headline "Boycott FN" and it only took a few seconds of reading to see that the original poster was just relaying misinformation and Badly at that! Dutch? No more Tulip bulbs for me!
Because I have educated myself of the whole New Haven bit and Winchester/FN/Browning, I was aware shortly after the closure that they were biding time till these products went back into production. Union Demands DID play a Major part in the New Haven closure and now those arrogant bastards can stand on the line!:barf: I have Kept Union labor out of my company for yrs and will continue to do so as long as I am in control! If you want to boycott something, Boycott Union Labor! These clowns somehow believe that they are so skilled and educated that noone else could possibly replace them and so they should be paid more than others! Well, who's laughing now?:neener: I will pay the premium (if necessary) for arms made by non union labor and Foreign labor if necessary and receive a Better product to boot! I laughed at the 94 scare and how prices went up as they were "gone forever" I laugh at those who blew their wads and got sucked in by dealer propaganda! They will be back, and based on history better built and maybe therefore higher priced. What little towns name is stamped on the barrel makes little difference in the quality of a firearm. I am not a "GUN BIGOT"

I'm not understanding the dislike for the Dutch, why so? They've always seemed to be on the US's side for the most part.

FN buys Winchester. Kills the classics... the Model 94, 1300, Model 70. Pieces that have made America great. Model 94 and 70 are legendary. They were the staples that our ancestors used to feed their families.

Then, FN resurrects the model 70 a few weeks ago at nearly double the price.

Now, Browning (Also spelled FN) kills another classic, the A-Bolt.

A few years ago I had a client and personal friend of a major bank in the Netherlands. He had recently been promoted to worldwide VP of I.T operations. I walked in to his office and said, "Congratulations on your promotion! Get that new Mercedes yet?"

He said, "BAH! Germans build junk!". And was deadly serious.

I realized I'd stuck my foot in my mouth. The Netherlands (Holland) are still fighting WW II. Anyone who's a history fan knows how many U.S. troops we lost in Holland. And FN is based in this crazy Euro world.

I, for one, have all the REAL Winchesters and Brownings I need for the moment. Anyone remember what happened to S&W when they sold out to the Brits a few years ago? Climbing in to bed with Bill Clinton bring back any memories?

I boycotted S&W then, and I'm now swearing off anything built by FN tagged "Winchester" and "Browning". I love my 94's, Citori's, old Winchester 22's and Model 70's. But I'd rather go without than stuff money into the pockets of FN, who's simply capitalized on the greed of U.S. corporations by selling out to the Euro's.

Anyone in favor of a boycot of FN?

Wow, that post is chock full of crazy.

1. If you are upset about Winchester being bought out, blame them not FN.

2. You are upset that FN discontinued old designs and brought one back apparantly due to popular demand?

3. And you are further upset that they charge more?!? Probably the old prices are why Winchester got sold in the first place.

And WWII?!? What does FN in Belgium have to do with WWII, your buddy from Holland or German cars?!?

You want to know why Browning is FN, That is because JOHN BROWNING went to BELGIUM to design and build guns for FN. So FN, the company you are advocating a boycott of, is every bit a part of the American Firearms tradition as Winchester.

Additionally, FN took the gamble and began domestic production in THIS country so that many of their products would be available to the US shooter. If FN PS90s and FN2000s were made in Belgium they would be unimportable due to the 89 Bush Ban.

Way to reward a company doing everything they can for the US shooter.

:scrutiny:

I found two beautiful Model 70 rifles used with good scopes but I had to search hard for wooden stock models. I do not know who thought the public would like those nasty looking tupperware plastic stocks!!! Oh wait I apoligize to the tupperware company, they make quality plastic items.
The two rifles were given as wedding gifts to my new son in laws. One is from Belgium by the way.

Germany on the whole does have good products---the exception??

Volkswagen---several people that I know with a lot more money than I have--have purchased VW's in recent years-----I can't post their comments because there might be children reading this thread.

Let's just say---Not Good.

I am one of those people who usually prefers Synthetic over Wooden stocks. Wood adds weight and is less durable in many ways than synthetic. Now don't get me wrong. A nicely made wooden stock is a work of art. But when it comes to a gun I need to use for "work" I like my plastic.

Which goes against the entire world's experience with Germany since probably the middle ages...

Actually,as the current owner of a Mercedes C230K and the previous owner of a 300, a 325 BMW as well as a couple modern VW's I will say that German automobiles in no way equal the quality of German firearms.I would not recommend that any of my friends purchase a used German car or indeed a new one unless they understand that there will be more issues than a Japanese or domestic option. Then again,I love my Land Rover too and it's downright horrible :)
