Boys Anti-Tank Rifle in .50bmg info

I was wondering if anyone has had any experince with the Boys Anti-Tank Rifle converted to .50bmg? I looks like a fun and diffrent way to have a .50 cal gun. Just wondering about them. Thanks

I have had the pleasure of shooting one. The .50 cal BMG cartridge is longer than the origional (.505) so it dident feed like it used to, and the sights on the side were kind of funny but it was no problem to thump a 700 yard gong with it.

The first fifty I ever shot was a converted Boyes, in the early '80s. A friend had it, and it shot reasonably well. They are BEASTS I tell you, they weigh a TON.

I'd spend the money on a current production rifle if I were you (unless you plan to DIY), there are several good ones to choose from that are much easier to deal with. I've never seen where a magazine was that big a deal on a fifty, a single shot works just fine. I decided on a Serbu, ymmv.

I got to shoot one regularly until my friend sold it. Luckily, he sold it to another friend so it's something we can still fool around with.

They do weigh a ton, but once your prone and have targets set, they are a hoot to shoot. Some were used by the USMC in the Pacific theater as sniper rifles, but only a few. I can't imagine being the poor Tommy who had to hump a Boys (or a PIAT) for that matter.
