BP is very common in fireworks and there are a lot of interesting things that go in fireworks. I saw a thread about BP night shooting, thought of my cannons and thought, WOW! Think of the effects that could be created. Anyone try anything like this?

No I would expect that some of the additives like magnesium could cause excessive pressure and possibly damage to the steel of the firearm through excessive heat or corrosion.

if not used with a projectile im sure they would make for interesting night shooting

I have been nosing around some German Language muzzle loader forums and sites. While I don't understand the full gist of what chemicals they use, some of the folks with handbollers and schaftbollers have experimented with adding chemicals for color effects. But bollers are shot strictly with blank loads, using corks over the powder.

There are dozens of web sites and you tube videos of them shooting their salute guns. Here is one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwUPWudN0Mk

They also use thunder mugs, called "Standboller" For those who fire salute cannons and mortars, the Germans and Austrians have some pretty sophisticated ignition devices so they can stand back when firing. Even a remote control electric ignition.

This would be with corked shots. I don't really care to shoot at things I can't see. Hmmm... Hey anyone got an idea on how to make a tracer round out of a cannon shot?

I beg you sir, you are veering onto the path of OMB madness. Repent and save thyself if only for the sake of the impressionable children that may be witnesses. If nothing else, set a nice gerb in the concrete of your projectile, smoke for day, aluminum flare for night.

We used to use different colored flares for July 4th.
Maybe the innards could be used.

I made the mistake of using Fg in my shotgun loads for a night shoot.
Spectacular effects but lost all night vision on the first shot. I had burning powder bouncing off of the targets.
