I have a Uberti 1873 .45LC that I want to reload with BP (777)

Does the lube in prelubed bullets matter? Seems thats all there are. Casting my own is not an option at this point.

I have read that with 777 to reduce the load. Should I reduce and fill gap with a wad? or just fill-er-up and not worry too much about it. Not looking for hot loads, don't have a need for them currently.

You need a black powder lube. You can buy them not lubed. If you do get lubed then boil them in hot water and pull them out when the lube is off. Go to a place like michaels arts and crafts you can buy a pound of bees wax. then melt it in a pot add 40 percent olive oil to the mix. cook until it is really mixed good. then your good to pan lube

As for the load. Yes you should reduce the load. Use either or a wad and some cream of wheat as a filler. They are pretty easy. you can also pan lube the old way

I few years ago i made the mistake of using some regular smokeless powder 45 bullets to load. I ended up spending about 3 days scraping the lead out of my barrel. Same with Alox lube. they are not black powder friendly

I tried 777 in .44-40 and .44 Special using regular hard cast, blue wax lubed bullets.
Powder charge was to the base of the bullet with very light compression, as specified by Hodgdon.
They shot ok and the gun cleaned up with clear water.
From Hodgdon:
"Quit using your special lube with Triple Seven. We have found that the regular hard, wax type lubes used for smokeless loads work just fine with Triple Seven and we have had no problems cleaning up afterward."

Thanks for the info.
I added beeswax and mutton tallow to my DGW order a few days ago. I'll be making my own wads for my '60 army.

I was hoping there would be a easy way to get the factory lube off. Didn't think of boiling it :)

Just placed my order at Midway and Missouri Bullet. I'll be reloading when they come in :)
