Brake Cleaner?

Some cleaning products I use on the patio outdoors when the weather is good. CRC Brakleen is one of them. I actually have used it on a gun that belonged to a relative. The gun had been stuck in a bedside dresser drawer, wiped with an oily rag, and put back, several cycles of oil and put back over decades, and was in bad need of a decruding. I did not want to learn how to detail disassemble so I field stripped it and blasted the cud out and used a q-tip to apply a light coat of good oil. But I would not use brake cleaner in my den or kitchen.

Come to think of it, it would not hurt on a nice day to give my reloading dies a good cleaning; some have been in service since the 1970s and occassionally I have thought to run a patch with #9, dry patch, lightly oiled patch thinking that was adequate cleaning. Might be interesting to see what I flush out with the tough stuff.

The Kahr forum says that brake cleaner will not harm the finish or plastic on their guns. I use it to clean the gunk out of guns. Just be sure to oil immediately, as it does an excellent job of removing all the protective oils on a gun.
