I was looking for something to catch or stop my rifle brass at the range. I have seen a number of brass catchers that attach to the rifle, but I was thinking more of something that would be independent of what I was shooting. It would either catch the brass or at least keep from flying 20 feet away. I thought someone here might know of something like that.

What I had in mind was a little 2' X 2' wire frame with a screen curtain. I figure the screen would just hang down loose like on a fireplace, but maybe not so fine a mesh and lighter material. I guess I figured the brass would hit it and just fall instead of bouncing off. A solid barrier or tight screen would make the brass rebound too much.

Anyone know of anything remotely similar? I have never come across anything like that. I hate to make it myself unless I have to.
The reason this comes up is my brother is getting a reloader and I figure I'll follow suit pretty soon.

Well, I wasn't really thinking of a fish net, just a screen curtain that would stop the brass from flying off into the grass or 2 tables over. I figured a course screen wouldn't be blown around by muzzle blast much. My friend mentioned a fish net when I first tried to explain it to him.

A few of my rifles throw the brass a considerable distance and I figured it would make it easier to clean up. The pistol range at my gun club has walls separating the firing stations so at least the brass doesn't fly away.

Hell, I guess if nothing else, I could hang mosquito netting next to my firing bench. :)

I'd think you could fashion something pretty cheaply from a simple cardboard box. Just cut a big enough hole in one side, and position it so your rifle throws brass through the hole. Your only problem might be if you're shooting a rifle like a HK91 or PTR-91 that throws brass up and forward, because you may not have room on the bench, or a tall enough box.

Also, I seem to recall having seen brass catching nets for sale to the bullseye pistol community. They don't want anything attached to their precision pistols, of course, but want their brass. The devices I've seen have wire frames and are meant to stand on a bench or attach to shooting boxes, and you position them so your pistol throws brass into them.

I've seen some pics of one guy that had a fishing net handle screwed into a block sitting on the table next to him to catch the brass. The net was converted to a small mesh so the brass wouldn't just fly out the other side. Sounds cheap n easy:D

Oh well. I am on vacation next week with no plans so I guess I will just have to build something. I do have some mosquito netting. :)

Go to Home Depot early in the morning. Hire a Brass Catcher for the day. It's a job that Americans won't do.

I bought a colorful colapsable toy tote from walmart that works great. It is one made of mesh and I found it in the food section hanging on one of those plastic strips they place up and down the isles. I guess it could be used as a colapsable grocery bag.(they have those too.) It is light weight and the wind will blow it around, but an extra box of ammo placed inside of it keeps it from moving.
