Hey, new member to the board. I have a CVA .44 Navy revolver that I have been building from a kit for about, oh 13 years now, doh!
Its been almost done for most of that time. Have one more piece to put in, the barrel retainer I think its called. I have some cold blue and should be able to work with the grips.
But not sure how to get the brass to shine and stay shiny. Do any of you know the process or some good inexpensive producs that I could look into. The directions dont mention anything about it.
Thanks

Brasso brass polish, is what I use to polish. The cap & ball
revolver kits that I have had were very crude castings.
Needed more then just polishing.

For the brass, start with 300 grit sandpaper. Use every available grit between that and 2000. It'll shine nice.

For rough brass, start with a rasp, then down thru different grits of sandpaper and then down thru 4/0 steel wool then put some red rouge on a cloth wheel and really make it shine. To keep it shiny you will need to put some clear laquer on it, nobody likes that tho. Just use some Brasso on it when it tarnishes a bit.

Dremel Type Polishing Kit

If you have anything that needs more than a brass polish, you might consider a dremel type polishing kit. Sears has one that comes with bullet shaped buffing attachments and 2 different grits of powder (rouge). I've seen it used to produce a mirror like polish on modern pistol feed ramps with minimal effort.

thanks for the replies, thats what I needed. the brass is pretty rough, so i will probably have to hit it with the sandpaper or I like the idea of getting a dremel polishing kit too ;)
thanks
