I have a brass framed SPILLER & BURR 36 CAL revolver. has any one had any issues with them? I have had no issues with it. I shoot the loads given me by sight members. I shoot a .375 RB. felt wad and 20 to 25 grains of 3f triple 7, 777. just curious?

I do not own the Spiller and Burr. I have two Pietta brass framed 1851 "navy" .44s, and use 20 grains of 2F under a ball. My impression is that 25 grains of 777 3F would be borderline heavy for a brass framed gun, although it would probably take quite a while to stretch one with a top strap.

That said, I believe in enjoying your guns. If you like the results with your present load, shoot the hell out of it and buy another gun if you wear this one out.

I own one and have been shooting 20 grains of Black under a round ball for a long time now. If loads are kept reasonable your gun should last a very long time.

I've been running mine with 17gr 3F 777 just because that tested out most accurate when I first got it (I just put the measure about half way between 15 and 20, it's probably plus or minus a grain or two any given day).

hey guys thanks for the input. I really like -shoot the hell out of it then replace it!!. that said, I in my 36 CAL even with a top strap am going to go down to 15, grains. why beat the snot out of it?. I am only shooting a hole in paper. I think brass framed guns really look great. I only have two, the SPILLER & BURR dated BC in 36 CAL AND A 1851 44 CAL UBERTY with the date of XXIV, and it is still in time! did the CONFEDERATES ever make a brass framed 1851 in 44 CAL? mine is octagon to round.no cylinder seen. rebated cylinder.

no the .44 brass 1851 or for that matter steel framed are fantasy pieces in regards to historical accuracy, im positive they are still fun though

fantasy guns, thanks for letting me know. yes they are still a lot of fun to shoot and are inexpensive. are the allowed in NSSA, and CASS, matches?

A lot of folks like them for shooting Cowboy matches, cuz they typically nice & smooth & inexpensive.
And, really, if yer not going to convert them & shoot light loads, they are perfectly adequate.

1851 brass navies

thanks for letting me know about shooting them in cowboy matches. don't want to show up with one and look like a fool if they weren't allowed.
