Okay, my wife's birthday is coming up. She asked me to get her a bread making machine. She's really into baking bread. But I was thinking she might really appreciate a new Glock 17. Who wouldn't? :banghead:So it's a bread machine vs. a Glock 17 analysis. I'm lost, at a standstill.......

I did it again....the Title should read Bread Machine OR Glock 17. :uhoh:

I'm working too many hours....brain dead lately.

Darn, and here I was expecting a picture of Glock-shaped bread, or a poly and steel bread maker...

If she's a shooter? Glock.

If she's not already a shooter? Bread maker and go read the sticky and also The Cornered Cat (or is it Kat?) blog.

She wants a bread machine.

Yeah, but in the past she's asked for things that she ultimately didn't care for. Who doesn't care for a Glock 17? I can think of anyone......

If your wife is an avid shooter and has mentioned wanting a Glock recently, then maybe she is giving you a cheaper "out" by bringing up a bread machine.

However, if she is like my wife, she really wants a bread machine.

get a used bread machine for super cheap, and use the rest towards the tupperware blaster

Glock perfection?
Bread perfection?

What's the difference?

Your wife told you she wants a bread machine.
That is what you should get her.

How would you like it if you told her you wanted a Glock 17 for your birthday.
And she got you a bread machine???
Thought so!

Then enjoy the bread perfection, while she can still make it, & you can still enjoy her making it!

I still remember when my wife had the new bread machine I gave her, and she could still use it!

Good times then!!
And really really good bread!!

But long past now.

Neither.

Get her a vacuum cleaner.

:neener:

Seriously...buy her what SHE wants, not what you THINK she may want. Especially when she's made it known to you what she wants.

Besides...comparatively speaking, buying both isn't much different in price than buying just the Glock. Which means you can buy the Glock later for another occasion.

:)

Starchy Carbs = bad for you.

Spending the next decade being reminded about that time you f'ed up the wife's b-day by buying a gun? = probably worse?

If she gets a Glock you'd better really want the Coach purse she's likely to divine is the preasent YOU most want for your birthday...

Personally, I like to get my wife things she would want but didn't put on her list. Surprises are fun.

I also bake bread a lot, especially during the winter. In fact I took advantage of the cooler weather last weekend to make homemade artisan bread, as normally I'd never run the oven and make it fight with the AC over the summer.

I got rid of my bread machines years ago after 1) learning how to make artisan bread, and 2) getting a KitchenAid mixer to knead other breads for me.

FWIW if my husband bought me a Glock he'd be sleeping on the couch for a long time...

Hit up yard sales and clearance racks. I've seen bread machines used once or twice, in the box, and you've never know they weren't brand new. Make sure it's one that isn't out of production or looks used, and she'll never know. Stop by the store for some extra yeast and such.
Super cheap.
Then get the Glock. If she wanted the Glock but didn't think it was worth putting it on the list, you get huge brownie points for getting both.

Edit: Buy the Glock only if you know she wants that. She may be happier shooting your guns.
And FWIW, I've yet to eat better bread from a machine than what you can do with a good mixer and an oven.

She specifically asked you for a bread machine. Something she’s “really into”.

I’d get the bread machine and be happy she told me exactly what she wanted so I didn't have to guess.

Easy decision...one dispenses bread, the other dispenses lead...as her husband which would you rather eat?

Everyone beat me to it. She asked for the bread machine. Just because YOU think she should want a Glock ( because " who wouldn't want one?"-- me by the way. I wouldn't want one), doesn't mean that you know what she wants better than she does. To think that is presumptuous at best.

Besides, these days, it's much easier to find flour and yeast than it is to find ammo. The bread machine can get a lot more use!
Get her to bake some really healthy breads (nutty, grainy things that are heavy on the proteins and complex carbs and light on simple carbs) and it can be incorporated into your diet to help get you fit and in fighting form!

The bread making machine because that is what was requested.

We picked up a "used" Zojirushi bread maker on eBay for $75. It looked like it had never made a batch of bread. Still had the advertising stickers on it. It went off to college with my grandson.

That's the best brand I've found. New, they are about $275.

My wife has the same model. She takes the dough out of the machine, puts it in bread pans, and cooks the bread in the oven.
