Bread Machine or Glock 17

Whats the bread machine for?

My daughter got me a sourdough starter for christmas, We haven't bought a loaf of bread since - except for a couple garlic loaves to throw on the bbq.

I've been making a Chad Robertson Tartine country bread - it takes a couple days - but not a lot of hands on time. It is good bread. I have a sourdough rye recipe that is darn good, and a vienna bread with cranberries that gets good reviews. Even a new england anadama bread.

Besides that, with a decent starter you get to make sourdough pancakes once or twice a week.

Look worst case scenarios: (1) If she really, REALLY hates the bread machine, she'll return it. (2) If she really, REALLY hates the Glock, she can do far worse things to you with it . . . . like have it framed and mounted over the fireplace and torment you by never letting you shoot it.

Both.

BTW, I got a bread machine 10 years ago with the notion that I would be making fresh homemade break regularly. Tried it a few times, bread was always disappointing. It's been in storage for years. Useless.

I'm lost, at a standstill

You're kidding, right? SHE wants the bread machine (and get a good one or you'll be regretting cheaping out). What's the real question?

You can only eat a Glock once.

If she said she wants X, and you bring home Y, well....

That said, Bread machines at best put out a mediocre product. I've been baking my own for years... Kitchenaid mixer is the best tool if someone is truly interested in creating great bread.

I'd get her the bread machine.

Having said that, I'm a single guy and I can bake bread without a bread machine. It's more enjoyable and the bread is probably better. If you're into baking, bake it the right way.
So... maybe you should show up one Friday night, enlist the aid of your wife, and make some awesome bread the right way. Then your wife will prefer it that way and not want the bread machine.
Then you can buy her the Glock.

I have a zojirushi or whatever they are, that we had to have about 10 years ago. It's been sitting in the kitchen closet for 9. If someone wants it - you can have it. Just pay the shipping. It works so far as I know - it will not mix 100% whole wheat dough.

Yep, my wife wanted a bread machine. She was able to try a friend's and it didn't work how she thought it would. I bought her the kitchenaid stand mixer years ago for $250 and have been enjoying the homemade bread ever since. I'm a fat man so the glock never crossed my mind.

What wifey wants wifey gets. We won't talk about the vacuum cleaner incident of 1994.

Both.

That's what I was going to say. You're working "too many hours". ka CHING.

Anyone else pick up what I'm puttin' down? Buy leadcounsel's lightly-used breakmaker, save some dough (d'oh! get it?!) and you have yerself a win/win.

You're welcome.

HEE!

Okay, my wife's birthday is coming up. She asked me to get her a bread making machine. She's really into baking bread. But I was thinking she might really appreciate a new Glock 17. Who wouldn't? :banghead:So it's a bread machine vs. a Glock 17 analysis. I'm lost, at a standstill.......
Forgive me, but why are you even asking this question?

she asked for a bread machine, it would be a bad idea to get her anything other than that. I doubt she will be too thrilled to get a functional plastic kids toy gun instead

See RC's post number 8. He has experience with long term marriage.

Weird this thread came up. I just got a new (used) gun and was telling my wife I want a good bread machine. I always wanted one and now retired I have the time to screw with making bread. I need a bread machine to compliment my S&W 27-2.

Forget the bread machine. My wife has had three and they all sucked big time.....waste of money............chris3

Still using the same bread machine since we got it as a wedding present 11 years ago. It is awesome beyond measure. There is only one activity that is more pleasurable than eating slices of that salsa bread... and it ain't shooting.

While I agree most bread machines are a colossal waste of money, it is what she asked for. So unless the phrase "or a Glock 17" immediately followed the bread maker in a list of things she wanted, the bread maker is the obvious choice. When she decides it wasn't what she wanted because the oven works a well or better, then go get the Glock and take her to the range to shoot the bread machine (properly loaded with the binary explosive of your choice).

angel,

Reminds me of the time my ex-wife asked me to buy her a vacuum cleaner for her birthday and I did. Big mistake, Get her the bread machine.

best wishes- oldandslow
