Break even point for reloading?

I reload (among other reasons) as a relaxing and creative hobby. I take my time with it. But if the equipment slows me down too much, it becomes frustrating instead of relaxing. A good turret press is probably right at the transition point for pistol ammo.

Also, shooting my .45 wouldn't be much fun if I knew it was costing me about $1 per shot (and currently about 60¢ per .357 Magnum.) I can reload each of 'em for about a nickel per. That makes a big difference in my attitude when I go to the range.

I've got guns that are chambered for some of the most expensive rounds out there.

338/378 Wby - $95 a box
405 WCF - $40+ a box
300 H&H - $60 a box
500 S&W - $35 for 12?!?!

That being the case, reloading for me paid for itself very very quickly. I'm not a rich man, and if I didn't reload I wouldn't be able to afford to shoot some of these guns. Plus I just enjoy the hell out of it. So from an "intrinsic value" standpoint, it paid for itself the moment I bolted it to the bench. :) For me though, it was definitely about the $$$ when I started (and still is for the most part).
