My buddy is looking to buy one and asked me about breaking one in. I have never know about breaking in a semi-automatic shotgun. Could anyone shed some light on the process? Thank uou

I have a 930 SPX. I cleaned it and lubed
it lightly with CLP. Then I put a couple of
hundred of the cheapo shot shells from the
local Wally World; Federals #7 shot. Then
I cleaned again. I had also put some slugs
and buckshot though it. That's how I did it.:D

Here is a link to a how-to on taking one down,
cleaning it, and putting it back together:

I did pretty much the same thing with my Mossberg Model 9200. I ran somewhere around 250 shells through it the first time out and it functioned perfectly. It went through everything from some light target loads to a lot of heavy field loads and never missed a beat.

With some guns that are designed for shooting everything from light 2 3/4" up to heavy 3" magnums they often recommend shooting a few boxes of some pretty heavy loads through it when new before trying to shoot lighter loads. Until it is broken in it may not be as reliable with very light loads.

Not all guns have issues with this and it may not matter with the Mossberg. At worst it may be a little less reliable with light loads at first.

Wipe off the manufacturing oil, lightly lube the moving parts (dry chamber) and shoot it. Shotguns rarely need a "break-in".
