I have a Millet scope that I sent back for repair. I called Millet Customer Service today to check on the status and the customer service rep told me that everything was a little delayed, because they just go bought out.

At first he wouldn't tell me who bought them, but after a minute or two, he said it was Bushnell.

I don't know if this is good or bad ... but I just thought the gun community should know.

This according to Wikipedia:
"Bushnell owns the rights to the Tasco brand and has licensing agreements with Bausch & Lomb and Browning Arms Company.
Bushnell is owned by MidOcean Partners, a private equity firm. which acquired the company in a leveraged recapitalization in 2007.
Previously, the company had been owned by Wind Point Partners, another private equity firm, which had originally acquired Bushnell in 1999."

If we keep on, there will only be one optics company, one firearms company (Cerberus Capital Management, L.P.), and one ammo company!

I agree, but it'll be Beretta. Don't they own half the long gun companies already? If they ever manage somehow to acquire Leupold they'll own Burris and Leupold and really be on their way.

In other news...

"NEW YORK, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- MidOcean Partners, a leading private equity firm, today announced that former Governor of New York George E. Pataki has agreed to join the firm's Executive Board.

"Governor Pataki is a great leader and a visionary thinker, and we are honored to have him join MidOcean's Executive Board," said Ted Virtue, founder and CEO of MidOcean."

Well, Bushnell bought the Bausch & Lomb scope line awhile back, and turned it into their Elite 4200 line. From my understanding, the quality has been just as good as ever. So perhaps them buying up Millett doesn't mean much more than a name change.

I think it's their rings and mounts that they're mostly interested. I think it would serve them best to keep the millet name on them, but who knows what they'll do.

Gov. Pataki has a history of being in favor of more and stronger Gun Control, an assault weapons ban, and a Federal Gun Registration scheme.

I may be paranoid, but I sometimes wonder if George Soros is bankrolling all these "Private Equity Firms".

And as soon as they buy up all the gun companies, and top-load the Board of Directors with handpicked people, they plan to shut them down? :scrutiny:

I doubt they will shut them down. The anti's are public outspoken about guns, but if it's going to make them money they aren't going to buck the system.

Oh lawdie, I HATE Millett rings (for good reason). If Bushnell had any compassion for shooters, they would destroy the machinery that makes these rings and never speak of them again, and just sell the Millett scopes.
