All you Surefire addicts don't flame me for this but has anyone seen the Brinkmann Legend LX flashlight? They sell them at Wal-Mart and Academy. Wal-Mart is selling them for 19.94 or something like that and they seem to be very similar in function to the Surefire G2 nitrolon. They have a Xenon bulb and the same lithium 123A batteries except they're about 10 bucks cheaper than the G2. They aren't made of the same material though...they're aircraft aluminum with anodized finish and a rubber grip. So in the construction material I guess they're more like the E2 but without the features such as lockout etc... Yeah Yeah..I know this isn't the same light used by SWAT/D-Boys/Whoeverelseusesit. So disregarding brand name recognition whaddya think about this for someone on a budget that wants a really bright, quality compact light for tactical (handheld) use?

I have the LED brother to this flashlight (the Brinkmann Rebel) which has the same grip but is bigger and, well it's obviously LED. I don't really dig the LED thing though because the spot is too small. You don't have extra light kinda leaking out and illuminating the perimeter AROUND the spot as much with the LED (which is something I actually like about non-LED) and it has a limited size pattern. It's a good flashlight though if you're looking for a budget LED light. Comes with three colored lenses and a belt holder.

Anyway...anyone have the Legend LX and want to comment? Seems like a great deal! I'll probably get one soon unless I hear some really negative experiences.

Ok..I'll save you from having to actually go to the link:

Powerful Lithium batteries combined with a super bright Xenon bulb produces THE ULTIMATE high-intensity beam flashlight. Constructed of heavy-duty, machined aircraft-grade aluminum with durable anodized finish, this flashlight is 10 times brighter than a standard 2 AA flashlight. Features include push-button ON/OFF tail cap switch with a silent signal feature, attractive rubber sleeves on head and barrel for maximum grip, shock and water resistance and spot-to-flood adjustable beam. Includes two 123A 3-volt Lithium batteries.

I liked the Brinkman Legend LX enough to buy two of them. Sure, they're not Surefires or even Streamlight Scorpions, but they are head and shoulders above anything else you'll find at Wal-Mart (or anywhere in the $20 pricerange).

Edited to add: It's also a good way to determine if a Lithium powered light fits your usage patterns. Not everyone is cool with lights that eat a set of expensive batteries every hour or so. Better to find that out with a $20 light than a $50+ model.

Hey mtnbkr,

Thanks for the comments. Do you happen to know what the lumens output is on the Legend LX? I sent an email to Brinkmann but I'm not sure if they're going to respond.

I've been using one of the Brinkmann Legend LXs for a couple of months now and really like it. My only slight beef with it is that it has no pocket clip and I can't seem to track down a belt pouch that will hold it. I've been wearing a lot of cargo-pocket shorts lately so it just rides in a pocket for now.

I may never buy a big MagLight again! :)

Hey! Just bought a Brinkmann Legend LX tonight at WalMart. It's awesome! This little thing just lit up my entire darkened living room. Brighter than my 3D maglite it seems. I'm gonna enjoy this I can tell already. Feels nice and solid. The metal has a nice look and feel to it and the rubber grip over it gives you a good solid feel and looks good. Definitely worth the 20 bucks!

Now I want one!!!!

Hehe... too bad I took the last one off the rack. :neener:

It's a great flashlight though, man, and if you get one you'll laugh when you compare the beam from your Rebel LED to the Legend LX. I'll still use the Rebel for constant low-light things though because of battery life. The tail-cap button is little stiffer on the Legend though...I might try to smooth it out somehow. Might smooth out with use. It was good talking to you last night!
