Brink's home security commercials funny stuff

Then there was the Brinks ad where the husband and wife are in bed, their first night in the new house when she hears a noise downstairs. Hubby goes to investigate it and is standing at the top of the stairs when the thug kicks in the front door. Hubby should have been standing there with a gun and blown the guy away when the door flew open. ;)

Back when I had a real job, I got a call from ADT. My alarm was going off!:what: My 14 yr. daughter was home alone. I left work, drove 2 miles to my home. My daughter had not shut the garage door completely.:banghead: When I was leaving, the cops drove up. I put down my car window and told them, I had taken care of the break in. I then drove off. :D

I always get a kick out of those commercials as well...

I had a system installed by a local company for 2 reasons:

1. My peace of mind while me and my family are away in-case of a fire.

2. My wife's peace of mind while I'm away over night. (The 870 with 00 helps too.) ;)

Plus, the cost of install and monitoring is almost totally off-set by the savings on my home owners insurance.

Wow, this was my first post.

I think the reason they are all white is that if we put a mexican or african american or someone else they would be extremely offended that we singled them out instead of ourselves maybe the mexican ADT commercials have mexican intruders to not upset minorities

What I am going to do is try to find some ADT or Brinks stickers and put them on my front windows and some on the rear windows. That way if criminals do want to scour my neighborhood they will probably skip the house. I miss our "Beware of dog" (with a fierce doberman on it) sign we had on our fence.

It really helps when if you are gone you have an extra vehicle (harder to do with the economy nowadays) in the driveway. Friendly neighbors that are home a lot also helps keep the neighborhood safe. But if a criminal is set on breaking in while we're gone... well not much I can really do but hope the neighbors notice unusual people taking things out of my house. If we are home and they are set on "killing/raping/taking us hostage" well I got my 12g and some pistols strewn about + a dog who gets disturbed rather easily.

Most of all I think home security systems are really only good for when people are gone. But if by putting up stickers keeps petty criminals away then its just fine. But they won't keep the really bad guys away who want my electronics/guns/lustful ass :scrutiny:.

burglars tend not to be home invaders, (aggravated burglary), They intend to hit the place when one one's home. Brinks, ADT, and all the others use the phone line and guess what the first thing that gets cut, then the power. About the only deterrent I've ever heard of that actually works is a dog.

Keep in mind dogs are not exactly that hard to kill.

All I know (or think) is that most robberies seem to happen
in metropolitan and/or inner city areas.

A lot of theft happens out in the country, particuarly at homes that are not occupied during the day...

One thing that we have found that works is to make people believe that you are totally bat**** insane. We constantly move vehicles around in our yard, fire guns at random times, etc. Use your imagination...

Word gets around and the local criminal element (in our case they reside in a small community a few miles away) will usually leave you alone.

Honestly, does an intruders skin color matter one lick when it comes right down too it? If it doesn't, then why are any of us wasting time talking about it?

Back on topic, I think I would go for one of these systems when I have a house. If anything, it can give you a heads up that something is going wrong earlier than you might without it, giving you more time to take action.

Nice ... so you could have had the 14 year old in your trunk and they'd have done nothing.

Its just one more layer of stupidity in these ads.

With the advent of VOIP, cable modems, and likely a few other systems I'm not aware of, "cutting the phone line" has become more complicated. The phone line could very well be the cable TV line, for example.

I also read into DIY home security systems. Seems pretty useful and you won't have a company taking precious money out of your pocket every month.

I also thought about smearing blood around my doors, garage door, driveway. Maybe leave some bones in the front yard, spent ammo casings, sandbags/barbed wire, etc... That way any criminal will be like, "These people are ******* nuts! No way am I coming to this neighborhood!" I think I will also put a crucifix or something on the door to still show people I am friendly :p

But yeah... stickers are still going on my windows.

Another thought... if the company calls you to make sure everything is okay, can't the burglar pick up the phone and just say for example, "Oh its fine, I left something outside and tripped the alarm." or "Yeah I am just watching my brothers dog while he is gone." If the folks who contact the police believe this then the security system becomes worthless.

On an unrelated issue, I contacted a major police department in TX about an accident history report. After a couple menus to sort through, the next prompt said "press one if you are a security company reporting an alarm".

Yikes.

I've worked with a couple different alarm companies through my work, they always have you verify your alarm code over the phone, and for trusted individuals who don't have access to the alarm code there's an extra security word thrown in.

Okay that helps. I would just pick up the phone and say, sorry you have the wrong number and hang up... lol

My ADT system uses a cell phone communicator- I don't even have the land line option. It also has it's own UPS system to deal with cut power.

I have had the system for over two years and have had four "false" alarms:

Incident #1- I did not shut and latch the back door properly. A gust of wind blew it open. ADT called me at work and told me that the door had opened, but the interior motions had not fired. Our local LE require two positive signals to get a response (door + motion, door + door, motion + motion, etc.) If they had, the police would have responded promptly. I drove home, shut the door and rearmed the system. (System worked as intended)

Incident #2- Brother had key to house but not code. ADT called my cell and said a door had opened with multiple motion hits. I figured out what was going on and had them not call the police. (System worked as intended)

Incident #3 & 4- About 22 hours after ADT came out and replaced all of our wireless sensor batteries, one of my motion detectors went off at 7:00 am. Talked to ADT and they said it might have been a fluke. The MD went of again the next day. I put in on test mode and a tech promptly came out again and checked it out. Turns out when the batteries were replaced, one of them was bad. Oh well, I think I can live with that...

One time I think we had to re-boot the alarm panel when the cell phone got bound-up- big deal!

ADT MAKES A VERY GOOD PRODUCT!

A good alarm system is just a piece in a layered home defense plan. By itself, it is worthless. But if that shrill alarm makes johnny crackhead sprint out of your door instead of paying a visit to your 13 year old daughter's room, its worth it.

My father made his own alarm system hooked to every door and window in the house. It had a battery backup in case the power was cut and the alarm horn could be heard at the police station a mile and a half away. (as the crow flies distance)
At the house when the alarm went off it was deafening. And as outdoor spotlights hooked into the alarm and on their own battery system was aircraft landing lights. They lit up the area quite nicely.

If reality and what they are portraying are on opposite ends of the spectrum, then it does matter. I don't like being profiled as a burglar.
