Broken Beretta Storm Out Of Box

Well I got my Beretta Storm in 9mm today - paid $549. I think that was a good deal. Now to the bad part.

I took the gun apart, it comes apart easily by pushing a pin out and the upper seperates from the lower. So then all of a sudden, pop, then the PLASTIC spring guide rod broke. The end of the rod which goes into a back plastic piece and locks the spring onto the rod just sheared off. So now I have a brand new broken gun. The spring guide rod is plastic and it has a small end on the back which goes in another piece of plastic which holds the spring captured. What kind of cheap ??? plastic is Beretta using on these guns. If you have a new Beretta Storm, I would definately get another guide rod because they are cheap ??? parts. So has anyone used Beretta service? I will be calling them ASAP to see what they will do about this. Or should I just take the damn thing back and get my money back? I sure don't have a lot of faith in a gun which breaks before it even gets fired.

If the shop is not too far away I'd walk back in with it and see what they will do.

A quick phone call to Beretta might get you a few spare rods too. (you never know till you ask)

well, cableman, you're the first I've heard that's had problems out of the box. You're the first I've heard that's had problems at all! (save for some mags that are fussy).

I think you just got a bad unit. Remember, not 100% of a manufactured product makes it out the door absolutely perfect. See if you can exchange it. If the rod's not that hard to replace, see if Beretta will send you another one.

Avoid the common reaction... 'this gun was broken out of the box, so it's junk, and every one of the same model is junk' ... this is likely not true. Sure, it sucks to get something that's broken out of the box, but see what the dealer will do. He might be able to just swap you with another one, if he has one in stock. If he doesn't, give Beretta a call real quick before you get your $$ back. They might be able to get you the part in a couple days. Slap it in, and shoot away!

Several years ago, I had a minor issue with the way the hammer in my 92SB felt. I called Beretta and told them that the hammer felt rough when I cocked it back manually. They said that I could send it back to them, or, if I knew a good smith, they'd gladly send the parts to him. I informed them that I was a smith, and they agreed to send me parts.

About 4 days later, I not only received the hammer to fix it, but along with it they shipped everything to make it DAO if I so desired, PLUS, a new trigger, trigger bar, sear, all the springs in the gun, and a Beretta T-shirt all FREE OF CHARGE. Now that is customer service.

Call Beretta, be civil, explain your problem and your concerns and I'm sure they'll take care of you well.

I sence the old hand of ToddG in that one.Too bad he's no longer with the company!I got the same kind of service when the 9000s I bought needed a recall a few years ago.

Update - Called Beretta - they are sending me another guide rod free and I bought 2 more at $2.50 each. It seems these guide rods are cheap and I will keep a few on hand just in case.

For $549 I wouldn't mind a broken part! That's $130 less I have seen it here so far. Hope it works fine and is fun when you get the part!

Listen carefully kids! When disassembling the storm, you must make certain that the hammer is cocked before disassembly. Otherwise, you will break the guide rod.

Boy am I glad I read the instructions before I played with it! Haven't broken it yet, just trying to keep it out of the hands of my wife!
