...who is none other than my wife!

Because of years of -ve conditioning, my wife (along with 85% of the population) is anti-gun. To top it off, even realistic replicas evoke a disgusted response from her. However, after much coaxing and convincing, she reluctantly agreed to go to the range with me.

So anyhow, I after I explained alll the safety rules to her, I rented a beat up winchester model 75 .22 bolt action rifle and old S&W .22 semi-auto pistol along with 100 rds of remington standard velocity .22lr to start her off on her 1st firearms experience.

2 hours later, she was able to consistantly get a 2" inch group at 55 yards with the rifle but she found the pistol too much too handle offhand (best group at 17 yards....4"s).

In conclusion, she no longer fears guns that much, knows how to use a bolt action .22, has a better understanding of why I LOVE shooting and concedes that it is a GOOD IDEA to have aforesaid rifle in her hands along with a box or two of ammo when the SHTF.

I haven't converted her yet but cracks are starting to show in her conviction as an anti. :D

Am not resident in the USA

Standing Wolf and Others:

I am not a US citizen and am living in a South East Asian country. There is NO GUN CULTURE in my country and the citizens have over the last 30 years come to unquestionably accept that guns SHOULD and MUST ONLY be controlled by the government.

I can only shoot because I paid through my nose to join the national gun club and went through much police screening to obtain approval.

You, Sir, are an inspiration...

I too was having some anti/girl trouble that is on its way to being resolved. Glad to here that others have had such success as you've had. Keep at it, I can't imagine anything better than your significant other outshooting you. :D Best of luck.

Sorry, but that figure is way too high. I'd be surprised to find even 5% of American citizens are true anti-Second Amendment bigots.
I have to agree with this. Most people just haven't thought about it enough to have any stance more sophisticated than "guns are FUN!" or "guns are icky".

antigun person

You sir are to be commended for your patience and perseverance. I realize she is your wife etal, but to get someone who is truly anti-gun to even agree to go to a range and fire a gun is an accomplishment. In the case of married couples, I really believe that it is a bond that only makes their union stronger. Now you both have a common interest that hopefully will get stronger as the years pass.....Congratulations....

When I lived in Thailand, it had a stronger gun culture than we have here.

I was in there from 1965 to 1972. Especially in the North guns were exceedingly common. I have participated in a gun “show and tell” in the ChiangMai University English department. At one time the police said that if they had a stop and search on the road passing the university, 2/3 of the men and 1/3 of the women would be carrying. I won’t guarantee the truth of that, but I believed it at the time.

In the South, at one time, the police had a crack down. Those carrying illegal guns were fined 50 cents, given back their guns, and sent home. When members of the press asked why the guns were returned, the police said that everyone needed a gun.

I have no idea what the situation is now. Maybe things have changed.

Puncha, where in S.E.A. are you located? You said that the situation had changed in 30 years. So my experience predates that. If you know ChiangMai, I remember the old German bridge.

I took my ex-gf shooting for her first time. She wasn't quite anti, but she didn't like guns at all.

Started with the 10/22, but she wasn't a fan of long guns. The next gun she tried was my FN Forty-Nine in .40S&W. The ergonomics won her over, but the kick was a little much. The next one was my CZ75B in 9mm. That sealed the deal. The light recoil and comfy gun made her a shooter. She said she wanted a gun of her own after her second trip to the range. For her b-day, we went to a gun show and she picked out a FN FNP-9. Perfect combination of recoil and ergonomics. In fact, I liked it so much that I'm looking for an FNP-40 for myself.

Anyway, the new GF is already pro-gun and has shot before. Fine by me unless of course, she's a better shot. ;)

My wife is technically pro, but is nervous about guns. She calls my concealed-carry "playing around" or being a cowboy.

I'll be taking her to the range as soon as the youngest is old enough to be left with a babysitter.

Congratulations:
you are in the process of creating a monster.
Every gun you have is now at risk of being taken.
New guns will be carefully inspected and quite possibly will disappear into a near by handbag.
But it's a fun monster.

Unless it was not possible, I would have had her shoot closer with the handgun on her first time out. I would not want a new shooter to get discouraged with poor shooting and give it up. I'm working with my wife as well, but until her trigger control improves, we're keeing it at 7 yards or closer.
