I've used Wolf in my SKS with decent results. Then this morning I saw an email from Cope's, announcing a sale on Brown Bear, 500 rounds for $109, with $7.95 shipping.

I snapped it up. I'll shoot a few boxes and stash the rest.

Any opinions on Brown Bear ammo? Little late to ask now, but I'm curious.

Same as wolf, a little cleaner though but not much. Cheap, non-reloadable ammo. Great for AKs and SKSes. $107 is great for 500, I bought 500 for the same price last week, I'm very happy to see the price down so low, the .223 is real cheap again too

same as wolf.

NOT the sama as wolf

cleaner
more powerful
and
much more accurate

wolf is the crappiest steel cased ammo you can possibly buy, if you buy ANY Other brand of steel cased ammo you're getting a much better product

Saying bear or barnual ammo is the same as wolf is like saying federal is the same as Winchester

Krochus has some experiments to his credit. So I'll give his vote a nod.

Personally, it's all cheap ammo. For cheap guns. Go to the range and enjoy.

Also you can reload steel case, berdan primer ammunition. It just takes a lot of work to convert it to boxer primer and then you have to find the right stuff to shape the steel again. Midwayusa.com.

At the prices it's down to again, why bother.

I agree totally with Krochus. I got rid of all my Wolf after a bunch of split casings. It was so nasty that with applied Hoppes, it seemed like black mud when pushed out of the barrel. I got Brown Bear and it is all Krochus says it is. It's manufactured in the Barnaul plant in Russia along with Silver Bear iirc.

I found Brown Bear HP to be the most accurate 7.62x39 around, as do most folks firing for groups. I've shot about everything there is, including US made brass cased ammo. Nothing else comes close. It's also nice that it is now getting down around $200 per 1000 rounds, too. Can't beat it. :)

So if steel-cased Wolf is from Tula, and Brown/Silver/Golden Bear is at least partly from Barnaul, what about ammo from Ulyanovsk? And is the ammo named "Barnaul" exactly the same as the corresponding Bear ammo?

+1, entirely different (and much better in all respects) than Wolf. :)

Thanks for all the info guys. I ordered 1000 rounds of Brown Bear Hollow Points for $235 including shipping from ammunitiontogo.
