Grizzlies and kodiaks and brown bears are all pretty much the same - just the latter get much bigger due to their rich diet.

All 3 are the same species. They have minor feature differences due to their habitat. Sort of like Human races.

Brown Bears are coastal
Grizzlies are inland
Kodiaks are from Kodiak Island.

On average, Kodiak Bears are bigger then brown bears and grizzlies though when last I checked, the larges bear of the species on record was an Alaskan Grizzly.
If you wanna know allot about the species, as crazy as Tim Treadwell was, he really knew his stuff about the species and there is allot we know because of him. Likewise, The Grizzly People, even though unfriendly to hunters, is a pretty good source for information on the species and one of the more down to earth animal rights groups.
which was later killed and her three cubs shot.

Too bad people shootings cant be justified that easily
:-o

So people who assault others aggressively should be shot along with their children?

While I'd certainly not support such a plan, I do have to wonder: would it "work"?

I don't think he meant it that way but historically, this WAS practiced from time to time, usually during war. Generally, killing the wives and children of fallen fathers was well practiced, usually to keep them from seeking revenge, but at times, humanitarianism was sometimes one or more of the motivating factors.

Generally speaking and from the Alaskan perspective, Alaska Range north and east Grizzly, Alaska range south and west brown bear, and that includes the ABC's and Kodiak.
