Browning BL-22 ?

Found one today at LGS priced at 400.00 in beautiful shape with 4x scope. Is that a fair price?

Good price even if the scope is a cheap one. I can only speak for mine, but it's very accurate.

Nice little guns and very handy to carry in the woods. I've had one for many years. disassembly/reassembly is not for the faint of heart, but on the other hand they're quite reliable and require little serious work. They're also a lot of fun.

If I'm shooting from a bench though, I generally like a full-sized, heavier rifle. I've never (personal opinion!) understood why someone would put a scope on a quick little rifle like the BL-22. It's perfect with open sights. If someone wants to do serious .22 shooting with a scope, I'd use a different rifle. $400 seems really fair... take off the scope and have a blast! I'd even put a peep sight on there before I'd ruin the lines (and overall size) with a scope.

If you're used to other lever rifles the short lever stroke will throw you off for a while. But if you can adapt then you'll find that they are superb rifles.

The scope does throw the balance of a lever gun off but I'm thinking of putting glass on mine as my forty six year old eyes need help.
