I have a Browning Buckmark that I have had for 15 years. It used to shoot great with no problems. Have been having problems with unfired rounds and failures to feed and eject. Always clean the gun well. Any ideas on life expectancy of firing pin and springs. Would like to get this gun back to life.

Is the extractor OK? Mine broke clean off off at about 800 rounds. It wasn't immediately obvious that the problem was the extractor. Some rounds would eject and some wouldn't. I disassembled it and cleaned it, still had the same problem, and then discovered the extractor was missing.

Check to see if the screws that hold the top assembly in place are backing out. This is a known issue and will cause symptoms similar to yours...

I can attest to this. (Buckmark Standard, occurred on first time out.)

I've also had weird issues with light strikes and FTF when I used grease to lube the slide. It gums everything up REALLY FAST; the slide doesn't get full velocity, and the firing pin channel got goobered. Bad, bad juju.

No grease on blowback 22LR pistols, evidently.

Browning Buck Mark Problems

I have a Buckmark which i have had since about 1993. I had the same problems you are experiencing. It turned out the rubber buffer in the recoil area had came apart into pieces and was interfering with the firing pin and ejection since the slide was not moving as it should. I would not take it apart myself. Take it too a gunsmith and have this part checked. It could be that is what it is. Just a suggestion, but the rubber deterioates and cracks over time.

hmmm, i have a new buckmark and am having similar problems, I was using a box of remington value pack hollowpoints. Once i changed to CCI I didnt have a prob

I have a Buckmark that like yours after many years of shooting began to regularily give FTF from light firing pin strikes. All the usual things like cleaning and tightening the screw didn't work so I took it to a gunsmith. After he worked with it a while he decided the firing pin had shortened from years of usage and stretched it a bit (a couple thousandth) which corrected my problems. Mine still feeds a ejects fine but I've replaced the magazine after the original came apart. Clean up the magazine as it could be the source of your feed problem and you may need a new extractor for the ejection problem or perhaps a change in ammo. When I get extraction problems with my Buckmark a good scrubing of the chamber, barrel face, extractor slot, bolt face and extractor with bore solvent and soft tooth brush solves the problem.

After 15 years I would assume your well aware of the typical problems with the ramp, the sight mount screws, etc. The slide buffer is a possibility, they are now a hard plastic and will wear out. Replacing them is not really a big deal - maybe a tad aggravating but patience will be rewarded.

Regards the firing pin, extractor etc, Numrich is the first place I'd look for replacement parts. The FP in my BM is not especially stout and I expect it to wear out at some point - basically I think the end gets peened over time. I know the FP assembly has changed over the years so I can't speak about your specific issue but I can't imagine Browning made it especially hard to replace. Sme with the extractor. That probably involves some tiny springs. Again the process shouldn't be too hard if your eyesight is good and finger dexterity is good. The BM has a few tiny parts that can go flying into lostforever land so you might try doing your work inside a large clear plastic bag. While I think most reasonably handy people could do the job themselves, I don't imagine having a gunsmith do it for you if you don't want the hassle, would charge too much.

If your magazine springs have gotten weak - try wolf gunsprings for replacement. I'm not sure if they make them for the BM but they do for most makes and they are good quality.

I got a bunch of spare parts for my HP and Buckmark right from Browning. Both price and service were excellent. No, I don't work for Browning...but I wish I did!
