A couple months ago I picked up this Browning Gold Fusion to use for Trap and Skeet. It seems to break clays when I point it at them, but it has had an occasional jamming problem since almost day 1. The guy I shoot with has started calling it my Jam-O-Matic, so I thought I should see if it can be fixed.

It only jams when chambering a shell after one has been shot, for example on the second shot of doubles in skeet. Looking at the round through the ejection port after it jams, it appears as though the round is not going straight into the chamber. The base of the shell is slightly headed out of the ejection port. Since it is not going in straight, the hull of the shell slides against the lip of the chamber which digs into the plastic. The shell usually has a mark where this occurs. Sometimes there are plastic shavings too. I couldn't reproduce the jam artificially, but I included a picture of where the shell gets hung up. If anybody has an idea of what's going on here I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

I'd contact Browning to ask their opinion (see here for their Service Dept. details and phone number). If they agree that it needs work, send it to them to be put right.

Sounds like something is kicking the shell over as the elevator is coming up, or it is hitting something on the left side of the gun as it is being delivered to the elevator from the mag tube. Is the elevator bent by chance? Sending it in is probably your best bet.

If it's under warranty, let Browning fix it. Does this happen with all brands of ammo?

It has happened with at least 3 different brands of ammo. PMC, Estate, and some Remington cheapos. I haven't tried the good stuff like AA.

Sounds like the concensus is to contact Browning. Anybody have experience with their service so I know what to expect?

Have you done anything to the gun? Tweaked as they say. Taken apart and in question about re-assembly?

Clean chamber and extractor. Get a box of AA 2 3/4 or 3 dr eq loads of 1 1/8 oz loads. [ AA12 or AAH12]. Great loads, great hulls to reload. Run it and see what happens with these.

There is always Browning option if this fails...
