Thanks for the insights. What is the condition of the finish? Is it painted on? Even for the same gun the pics make the wear on the finish look different depending on the angle?

I can tell you that I have 2 from that lot and I am very pleased with them. One of them is marked the same as the one you posted , with a character (Hebrew , I think) that looks like an inverted "U" ; I believe that designates law enforcement service. There are others marked with the Star of David , which is an Israeli military designation. The law enforcement one has a noticeably lighter trigger than the military. I'm thinking heavier springs for NATO loads.
(I've since had the military HP worked on , trigger now about 5.5# .)

That lot of surplus High Powers represent a good value , IMO anyway. Great shooters.

Blued , worn blued. No pitting or corrosion. IMG_1424.jpg Here is one of mine. I have a liking for a well worn finish on a well functioning gun.

When looking at the surplus pistols on GB they could have originally been blued, parkerized or epoxy. Many have been refinished in park or epoxy of some sort. If I was in the market for a surplus BHP today I would look for an early MKIII with a forged frame or a cast frame. I would be looking for modern dovetails of the MKIII vs the MKII. I would want it to be as stock as possible. I would pay extra for the original finish blue being the preference not matter what it looked like. That way you know what the gun really is. From there you can do what you want. There is an example of what I am talking about. IMHO the buy it now price these days is $500-$550 for these guns. When they move over $600 I pass. When you are over the $600 mark I think you are better off looking for a commercial gun. YMMV
