Hello,
One of my buddies is selling his Twelvette for 450$. It is made in Belgium and dates to 1953. Should I pick this shotgun up? I was looking for a auto 5 but this seems like a good deal. Did these early browning's have any problems, I should look out for?

The Double Auto, imo, is one of the nicest handling "repeating" shotguns ever made, though it was never really appreciated by the American shooter (only about 65,000 were produced from 1954 thru 1972; all being 12 gauge). I bought one brand new in 1961 for $149.99 and it's still my go-to gun for grouse.

In order to give you an approximate value for the gun you're looking at, like any used gun, the condition has to be known. Additionally, in the case of the Double Auto, its color can have a lot to do with its value. The most common color is "Dragon Black" with gold engraving, with the Grey color with silver engraved receiver being probably the second most produced. The very early and original steel receiver variants (all made with a conventional "blue" finish) are relatively rare and are valued accordingly. Some of the less common colored models in very good, original finish will easily fetch over a thousand dollars.
